I thought I'd take some time and discuss something that's been on my mind the last few weeks. As some of you know, I'm a life long SJSU Spartan fan, and as such I'm often on the SJSU, WAC and MWC boards, and follow news that may affect my Spartans. The recent realignment nightmare that is unfolding and consuming in the FBS has wreaked havoc with most of the group of five (MWC, CUSA, MAC, Sun Belt and Big East), and is beginning to reach the WCC, Summitt, MVC and Big West. The MAC seems to be the lone unharmed/stable orginization. The schools in these conferences are living in perpetual uncertainty, and their futures and livelihoods are in question.
As the rest of the DI world unfolds, we sit in the Big Sky sound as a pound (at least so far. I pray I haven't just jinxed us). Our confernce is seemingly strong as ever, and the only thing I can see happening is loosing North Dakota, or being the benefactors of more schools thanks to the fallout. When Doug made a move to solidify the western FCS, it gave us a sort of bubble that kept us out of the muck everyone else is experiencing. And while we have a rather long laundry list of issues we need to address, its nice to think that for now we have time to work on them and improve our brand and product. I also like that we have a collection of opponents that we've become familiar with and are now great traditional rivals.
I think our future looks great, and I'm happy to be in the Sky. Any changes coming look like they'll be positive and for that I'm thankful. SJ out.
