Outreach

Does anyone know if the athletic department or media relations folks engage in community outreach (passing out schedules, posters, ect.) to inform people of the team and schedule to increase attendance? Maybe they can talk some of the local cafés and businesses to hang up some schedules and posters. Just curious, I would imagine this can’t hurt the interest in the program. :?:

If they do I've never seen it. There needs to be more of a media push and marketing.
You never hear anything on tv or radio in regards to advertisment of games.
We also need a bigger radio voice. UC DAVIS has 1140 am (50000 watt station reaches bay area)and they have advertisment on that station that talks about their schedule and ticket packages this year. We have 1240 am (10000 watt station barely reaches Stockton). It's a low budget station we should try and get espn 1320 (50000 watt station) to do our games and advertise. I also don't like that there is no local tv for away games.

the team definately needs to get the word out. i live out of state, so like a dummy, i dutifully look up the sac bee for coverage on the hornets - nothing. they cover the monarchs, the kings, the daisies and every conceivable other high school sport but the hornets. 2 stories on the hornets in a month does not constitute coverage by the bee.

as for local tv for away games, i've relied on big sky tv, which televises the hornets games online. not bad, but i'll take it. as for the unlv game, they will have it broadcast on their local ESPN radio station. there's no reason (except for money) that we couldn't do the same.

aside from fliers, radio time, online ads, tv time, there is one surefire way to get people to the games: win games. and i think the hornets will. another low tech method is to send out the hornet band marching throughout campus on thursdays or fridays before home games. send them all over old sac, the mall, wherever. preferably playing "louie louie" or some other rabble rouser.

-GO HORNETS!
