Over the Next Month...

We have one month before we play MSU, UM, CalPoly, and PSU. Before then, we play UC Davis, UNC, and have a bye week. I am not looking past those two teams, I remember how last year at UNC went, but iron sharpens iron, as they say, and neither of those two teams look especially dangerous to me. We play both of them at home, in the depths of the inferno. Both games are essentially sold out and one of them is our homecoming. I am thinking out loud when I say this, but will we soften up at all by not playing tougher teams for the next month while our counterparts duke it out? I mean, I certainly believe the team has earned some mid-season R&R but you've gotta wonder. In any case, this will give Kupp some time to relax his shoulder and get back to 100%. Also, it could be that we will face a beaten up round of teams in the late season. Unfortunately, it also means that we will not be rising any higher than we already are in the polls unless any of those three teams ranked better than us really screw the pooch for a month. There are pros and cons to it, I suppose. I am in no way complaining that we don't have to play backbreaking games for a month, but I thought it would be interesting to discuss.

Proud of this team nonetheless! Exceeding everyone's preseason expectations. Go Eags!

I think the "down" month is great. We have lots of injuries that need healing, and whatever we can do to be ready for November is going to be important. On paper we should be able to run the conference and grab a top 4 seed in the playoffs.

10-1 baby!

The next three games should be winnable but we can't take anything for granted. Davis plays physical enough to give us problems and the jury is still out on UNC. I like where the bye is prior to the MSU game.

I hope the team does not see the next two weeks as "off" games. What a shame it would be to blemish the conference record with a loss to teams we should beat. The focus in each of these games should be getting better in some aspect of the game on which side of the ball. Each week focus on something getting better, small steps or large, just get better and I know this coaching staff will get that done.

It would be a shame. Guess it comes down to whether there is a belief there is strong team leadership or not. Am seeing a lot of leadership on the defensive side of the ball, think it hurts that Jabari Wilson has been relegated to third string on offense as one of the few non-WR seniors on that side of the ball. The young guys are excited and executing well enough. Games are won and lost on the field; coaching matters but on the field leadership in game situations is even more important to maintain focus and make a run.

We have good team leadership.

I'm with you 100%. We need some games against lesser teams to show we can get through the motions and improve from week to week. It would be really nice if we can come out and torch some of these guys early, but Big Sky Conference play is always tougher to navigate than it appears on paper. Fortunately, we get a couple of home games so the kids can settle into the school year without a lot of missed classes and travel.

UC Davis doesn't look all that talented, but they have a certain fighting spirit about them. They did well to come back on Weber State yesterday before a catastrophic error cost them the game. I have no idea what to expect from Northern Colorado or Montana State--- but I've seen a little of them and neither look like they should compete with us if we play well.

Play well being the key words

Out of those three, MSU worries me the least. I watched their game against North Dakota and their offense is god awful. Their defense is improved but we should win fairly comfortably in Bozeman.
