PanAm Facilities Answer!

Boredom has gotten the best of me. Even with football being almost a month away, the summer doldrums are in full effect. So, with the PanAm games going on in metro Toronto, I got to thinking. The CFL Hamilton Tigercats recieved a new stadium, and the University of Toronto recieved new and upgraded facilities thanks to the games. I thought; why can't Sacramento apply for the games, and partner with Sacramento State? Yes, it's a crazy idea that has less than .001% chance of happening, but think of the benefits we could reap!

New or seriously upgraded Hornet Stadium. Opening ceremonies and athletics are the main event in these games, and we need a new facility. It could either be a large new stadium, or a small stadium with temporary bleachers for the event. Sacramento has hosted nationals, and proven we can support athletics events.

New arena/events center. The games have gymnastics, basketball and wrestling which all require large arenas. The Golden 1 will be a nice venue, but these massive events require at least two. Build it on campus, and Hornet basketball has a new beautiful home we've been waiting long and hard for!

Aquatics center. We don't have swimming or diving, but think of how cool it would be if we did! At least our students could use it for recreational purposes if anything.

Athletes village that become our new dormitories. More on-campus housing means more involved students who might actually start attending games.

Aquatics. We already have this one taken care of ;)

A new Republic Soccer stadium, and pre existing facilities in the greater Sacramento region take care of the rest. The games help lift the city's profile, and allow Sacramento State to have top-level facilities, allowing for better recruitment and image.

Love the idea.

Why not?

We got the current Hornet Stadium built in like 6 weeks 15 years ago or more due to the world Football League.

Anything is possible.

And would love to see a swimming complex at Sac State. So odd that a university in Sacramento has one tiny pool on campus outside of the pool in the dorm complex And so odd that the diving pool got filled in and gone just like that. have no idea why something like that would happen years ago. Remember when Sac State had a very good swimming and diving program back in the day.

oops.

meant to say the expansion of hornet Stadium happened quickly and suddenly like 25 years ago there abouts.

Back then the stadium truly did look amazing from what it was, with bleachers even in both end zones. It looked great. But all these years later it is getting pretty rusty and fragile looking and still very temporary in
it's structural make up. Still a great feeling stadium when it is completely filled but this is rare.

The years are passing so fast it gets hard to count sometimes.

going to be great to have the high school football state championships at Hornet Stadium. Any and all events on campus enhances the Sac State brand. Using our facilities to their fullest potential is a good thing.

I certainly agree, and hope it will also lead to further improvements for the facility. If Sacramento can provide a good, well attended, atmosphere, maybe it can be a long term deal. A long term deal can potentially spur upgrades and maintenance. or at least proper bathrooms
