I was lucky enough to check out the first part of the scrimmage today during my lunch break and in between meetings. My first thoughts are...we are going to score a lot of points. Padron played with the 1's and Adams with the 2's. Kaufman, Edwards, and Herd were there, but did not play in the scrimmage, I'm sure just because our first game is in a week.
This is the first time I have seen Padron and he is the real deal. The first possession he drove the team down 70 yards in about 7 plays and Forte had a nice TD run to finish it off. Padron looked sharp. He had a couple more series and over threw one receiver and it was picked off, but I came away impressed, although I didn't stay the entire time.
Adams was very impressive. He definitely isn't very big, but he sure is athletic. These scrimmages are difficult for him because he isn't allowed to use one of his best attributes, his legs. His first time in, he threw a 50+ yard td pass to, I believe but correct me if i'm wrong, Shaq Hill. Not too sure because there were two number 9's (and I thought that was the jersey number), one on each side of the ball today and I thought HIll may play DB. Next time Adams was on the field, they were inside the 10, he could have easily ran in a TD but couldn't because once the QB crosses the line of scrimmage the play stops, but he threw another TD on the next play.
Offense looked good, wind howling pretty good so it was tough on some deep balls, but the O really did look good. Our defense is also much improved. We will find out right away against Idaho how well we can stop the run, but I think we will be worlds better than last year.
I came away impressed from the scrimmage, but I only stayed about 40 minutes. I can't wait for the season to start!
