Path to Frisco

#3 Weber will host either Wofford or Kennesaw State. We have a great path to Frisco if we can play our absolute best.

What stands out to me is the chance to HOST Montana for that second home game. If the weather is good, it could be our first sellout!

Payback time, they knocked us out of the '08? tournament, now it will be out turn to take them out.

Tis great to see 4 Big Sky teams seeded in the top 8...exciting post season play for the Conference fans & well deserved. Good Luck to all ! But of course BEST OF LUCK TO THE WEBER STATE WILDCATS...play great, great, great. :notworthy:

PS. Interesting insight on the FCS 2nd Round schedule showing the Stewart Stadium game Dec 7 @ 1pm on ESPN3 vs. #2 seed Weber State!! (James Madison is unseeded.) :kisswink:

I too, like our path. It has a little bit of everything in it. The potential for rematches with UM and JMU is fun to think about, but we have to get past the first thing first.

I disagree about having to play our best. I think we have to play OUR game and not much more. We need to go about this like business as usual. I feel it is a mistake to have the line of thinking that you must be at your absolute best. When Ron A's team beat NC, he told them in preparation that our average game would beat them. He didn't want everyone to be thinking it would take something superhuman. That made a big impression on me and I believe it was the right approach. Just sayin'. :coffee:

Yeah cause Griz fans will fill half the stadium. :wall: The community needs to step it up. Yeasterday there were no competing local games, no big competing events/holidays, and good weather. But the crowd was very disappointing, including the student section. And for hell sakes, would people stop wearing BYU and Utah gear to a Weber game. Drives me crazy when I see that.

OK, how about mistake-free? I really have a hard time seeing Weber's average game being enough to exact revenge on the griz. Lest we forget, Weber got it handed to them two weeks ago! Not to mention, full focus and attention better be on Kennesaw (more likely IMO) or Wofford.

IMHO, no team ever plays mistake free. You try to keep them to a minimum and not make the really big ones, like turnovers or life sucking penalties. We didn't play our normal game at UM. We made way more mistakes than we normally do. If we get another chance, I think we clean that stuff up and have a better outcome. Whatever happens, it's been a great ride and the future is even brighter. :coffee:

Wofford and Kennesaw both run option offenses. That's good for Weber.

#2 and #1 rushing offenses in the country and Kennesaw #7 (2 better the Weber) in run defense, although I'm not sure how they're SOS compares.

That's what makes all of this so much fun. It's hard to draw strait up comparisons. They play on the other side of the world from us. We'll prepare and so will they. We will get to see them against each other this week and have a little more time to prepare. They also have to travel into the northwest mountains for a wintertime game. A snow game would be great, with the exception of some fans cold butts.

No it wouldn't ! I'd much rather see a decent dry weather game where we could at least hope for a decent crowd & no excuses on opponents side that the weather conditions beat them, not the Wildcats! Gripping about small attendance...wanting decent attendance...& then hoping for wet frigid weather is ridiculous. Logically will be the bad weather some hope for but get real on the expectations on fan support, other than ex-jocks loving to tough it out on their cold butts! :twocents:

Interesting draw. I hate watching option teams but at least both teams run the option so we can spend the bye week preparing a bit more efficiently than normal. Massey projects us as 14 point favorites vs Wofford and 17 point favorites vs Kennesaw. I’m expecting Wofford to win and a tough game in the round of 16.

Massey SOS Rankings (FCS Only):
Weber St 4th
Wofford 49th
Kennesaw St 107th

Sagarin SOS Rankings (FBS & FCS):
Weber St 137th
Wofford 205th
Kennesaw St 236th

Two of Kennesaw St's wins are against NAIA schools.

My sarcasm didn't go over real well. However, we will be prepared for any weather. Will they? I hope we get the biggest crowd ever. I don't know if students get in free, but if they don't I plan to buy them a few seats. If that is the case, I hope that everybody buys a few extras for students. :coffee:

If I recall correctly, students did not get in free last year. The NCAA gets a cut of all attendance with a minimum guarantee. Weber sets the prices, but either way, we need butts in seats.

I believe the university paid for the students, but don't know for sure. Either way athletics really needs to get their asses in gear. They did nothing during the semester to get students out to games. Homecoming was the exception. If I was athletic marketing, I would contact four groups right away and create a plan and make some deals. WSUSA, SAA, LDSSA, and the Greeks. The easiest, cheapest, and most accessible group to market to are the students. Putting up a random sign isn't getting it done.

You might be right. I think they paid for one ticket per student. They did not allow students to bring in guests.

The Greek system is on life support. but they really need to market to the students and the community. I remember a playoff game a long time ago where the team came to the residence halls and did a pep rally just to get students excited. This was a road game against Marshall, but they still wanted the excitement on campus.

An interesting read on the game:
https://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/18046 I hope it is Kennesaw, but I think it will be Wofford.
I hope they beat each other in the battle of the Triple Option, High School Offense scheme.
We saw this offense against Cal Poly and it didn't work out so well for them.

Both are from the South (South Carolina and Georgia). Welcome to Utah in December...

I also saw this projection on winning the whole Enchilada. Looks like Weber will be favored up until the semi-finals, but odds makers consistently underrate Weber. I like our chances to make it to Frisco

Probably correct on that scenario, Grizz fans pack their stadium in any weather.
Be nice if marketing could get a local sponsor to cover for free Student tickets & have free shirt gear for the first 5K fans or something like that...how about a credit union, business...?

Like Coach Hill's quote in today's SE "I'm just hoping and praying (fans) come out and support us like I think these players deserve to be supported". Amen to that! :thumb:

Statistically, Wofford and Kennesaw are comparable in their rushing attack and there's not too much difference in their passing game either. However, Kennesaw is notably better defensively against the rush. I'm leaning toward Kennesaw in this one.

I'm not so sure Weber is underrated. I know it was somewhat of a (un)perfect storm in Missoula but I still think that game was telling. I'll be happy but a little surprised if Weber makes the semi's this year. I hope they can rise up and make a real run at the championship but I just don't see it.
