The coaching staff at Washington State has preached a family environment to potential recruits, selling Pullman as close-knit to student athletes and their families. It's one of the reasons head coach Paul Wulff has been able to keep landing recruits despite a record that's been disastrous over the last three years. Wulff and his staff stay positive, stick to their guns and make recruits feel at home during the process.
But one class of 2011 recruit -- Spencer Waseem, a cornerback from Apopka, Florida -- found out just how much the staff values family during an in-home recruiting visit. Wulff came to town, met with the family and even ate a nice home-cooked gumbo meal. And, as CougCenter's Kyle Rancourt found out in an interview with Waseem, Wulff made himself right at home.
Spencer Waseem said:
Also, Coach Wulff came to my house and ate my dad's Gumbo then used my bathroom (#2) so we were family at that point. Lol
Apparently it sealed the deal for Waseem, who committed to the Cougars early and made it official on signing day. Head coaches, take note: Bowel movements can be a selling point.
