That game had ZERO impact on the votes....the spokesman article was a complete fabrication of the truth! The award is for regular season stats and performance and has nothing to do with post season. Votes were in before playoffs started.
His stats were not as good as the others. Not going to sugar coat it.
 
Thanks for the correction 98. Nice that Southeastern Louisiana had an extra game during the regular season so Kelly could better his season stats and performance. But that may have made no difference Kellys stats were good. Kelly is big at 6'7 260lbs.

This is what I thought as well. Had Barriere performed well and protected the lead in the second half, we’d have another Payton Award winner in Cheney. Oh well..
