Interesting history regarding our bad start...

28--- years since Eastern went winless in their first four game. The Eagles opened with 5 consecutive losses that season before winning out. It was Eastern's first year as a D-I program and they didn't have the benefit of having D-II Prop 48 players (all teams could keep Prop kids back then).

34--- years since Eastern played a schedule with only four home games. The Eags only played 9 total games in 1977.

21--- years since Montana State won in Cheney. Montana State beat Eastern in a home game at Albi Stadium once among 11 EWU home games in that span.

I'm not trying to pile on... but if you're not laughing, you're crying. The disappointment has been palpable among the whole of the Eastern fanbase. Confidence went from an all-time high to a near all-time low in less than a year.

I hope we get it turned around, I think our coaches have put some good plans together and really kept us in games that our playmaking has cost us, but I don't see the signs of fight from this team that will be required to turn it around this year. We've had plenty of chances in every game this season, and haven't found a way to capitalize even once.

Interesting facts. This year is more of an anamoly than anything but hey, we're not out of the playoffs yet. Also, maybe this will help ensure Baldwin sticks around a few more years. Could be worse - we could have been blown out big time in our games. I think our only "bad" game so far was South Dakota. In my opinion MSU won mainly because of their kicking. Two 55 yard fied gaols? Thats impressive, especially in IAA where kicking generally blows.

I like more recent history...

2007 - finished the regular season with 4 game win streak to get in, boat raced the #2 seed Mcneese and lost to the eventual champs at the Rock in the quarters by 3.

2008 - finished with a three game winning streak including knocking off co-BSC champs WSU in the finale', costing them an outright title and perhaps a seed.

2009 - 5 game win streak including a barn burner at NAU to get in the field of 16 with a crew that was almost as beat up as this one.

2010 - well we all know the streak there. 8-)

Not saying we have much left in the tank, but there is some history. :thumb:

The thing that sucks the most is we can't get spokane fair weather fans out to the games if we keep losing. I was hoping we would sell out every game for the next two years and finally get that stadium expansion.

There's a ton of different variables that have gone into this season so far. I can honestly say that I didn't envision us being 0-4 after the UW game. But we are a couple plays from being 2-2. It's totally possible to run the table at this point, but the injuries and lack of depth that are going to have to be there to turn this thing around don't exist right now. We absolutely have to get some guys healthy quickly. It's a damn shame the guys that have been lost for the season; but that's part of the game. We got really luck in that regard last season where we stayed mostly healthy all the way through the season. The cards didn't fall that way early in the season for us this year. Nothing left to do for this team right now but to just strap it on and try again this Saturday.

We need the defense to step up and make plays. We'll need to generate TO's to have a chance to win this one. Weber's playing really sound ball right now, they have a great offensive line, and we pretty much know exactly what they're going to do - lean on us and run the ball to control the clock and keep the ball away from our offense.

Right now we are playing to have a winning season and maybe play the spoiler to some teams that have a good shot to make the playoffs. Weber is one of them. We may be banged up, but we still got that pride.

Go Eags!

This is just my opinion, but his team is playing tired. They played 5 weeks longer then most teams last season, then was worked very hard this off-season. Any chance that this could be leading to all the injuries?

The old addage applys here, next man up has to fill in and hope to get this thing turned around. Go Eagles

It has definitely been a disappointment so far, but there is still time to turn it around. I think we all feel the same way, how in the world are we 0-4? After watching the U-Dub game, I never would have thought we'd be 0-4 right now. Injuries and travel have killed us. I do think these guys turn it around, too much pride for the defending national champs to go out this way.

The biggest disappointment I have is that we lost a ton of fans that we gained along the way last year. We had a chance to grow the fan base, grow the support for the program, and make some much needed changes for the program. By scheduling 4 home games, that killed the momentum, and going 0-4 to start killed it even more. Winning does a lot of things, it brings in fans, it brings in support, which brings in $$$, all things that Eastern has been lacking for years, we had a chance to change a lot of that, we still do if things can turn around this year, but we sure haven't helped ourselves yet.

totally agree with you marc... the momentum we had heading into the season is now dead ... and it can be traced to the schedule ... that second game had to be a home game, even if it is against a western oregon or the school of rock or whoever ... it would have given us a win, some momentum hitting the road to missoula and a chance to host a game and work out some kinks (apparently folks at ewu forgot how to get people through ticket lines)

now look at where we're at ... we're 0-4 (possibly soon to be 0-5 against a solid weber team) ... and back to our little old fan base ... the folks from spokane who made their way out for the first time left with a bad taste in their mouths, not so much from a loss, but because the awful ticket lines and the bad parking situations ...

typical eastern ... one step forward, two steps back.

Besides Chaves' schedule blame the 0-4 on Earlywine getting fired and the new basketball coach not recruiting in Washington...

Everyone can place the blame on me...I went to all 8 home games last year and they didn't lose, work ships me south for a month after I already have my tickets this year, I miss the griz and bobcat games and they lose. Please place all blame on me.....and some on the schedule ;)

Hey, I went on line last night to pick up some extra tickets for the Northern Colorado game and the best 4 seats together were in the visitor's section, row 6, about the 5 yard line. So, I'd say that they are still drawing a crowd. We just need to bring the crowd support along with it.

I know that the team has lost a major portion of their starting offensive line, who, at the UW, showed us all what they were capable of. I'm sure that the men in there now are giving it their all, and then some, but it doesn't make up for the chemistry that I'm sure was present with the front five at the start of the season. It will come back, but that takes time together, which they will have as the year goes on. I'm really proud of the men and will support them on the rest of their battle.

Go Eagles!!

Just talked to my buddy about our tailgate plans, and we've sold at least 8k tix to the game. The sky is not falling, and the Eagles aren't quitting! Get your asses to Cheney for each of the remaining three home games, and get LOUD! Go Eags!

FrontFive4Life,
I heard the same thing today about the ticket sale. If so, that is great news. That means our fans are not deserting our team. Regardless, I will be at all the home games. :thumb: :thumb:

Spoke to Matt Johnson today about 3:30pm hrs, he stated his brother Zach had just gotten out of surgery, and was doing very well :thumb: . His surgery on his knee was done in Seattle.

We need to "COMPLIMENT" Coach Aaron Best for the job he has done getting the OL back in condition. I have seen this team practice all this week, they will represent us very well. This team will come out fighting, and play their asses off. (excuse my language). :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

We are all disappointed about the 0-4, after the way they played at UW. We must all put those losses behind, and hope for the best of remaining games of the season. We could turn it around with some luck going our way.

Great Article on Cora Kellerman, I have had her at my home along with the Volleyball Team at least two times, she is an outstanding athlete/person/GPA. She is going into Electricial Eng. She will probarbly be making Pace Makers (my guess). Lets get ready to kick "A++es on Sat. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

loloman,
Todd is looking great along with our other Wide Receivers. This team has outstanding tallent. All these players will be the cream of the crop that will be returning next year, and they will recruit some additional great athletes. First we must get this year over, on a winning way. Vic Wallace

Not sure how you can say we've lost fan support based off of one really-well attended game. Agree that the line situation needs to be worked out. Consistently large crowds need more employees at the gates. Thing is, we'll have to continually draw well for that to happen. We need some wins.

Vic;
Do you know if they pulled the red shirt off of any young guys?

Nice to hear 8000 tickets were sold, I'm guessing that does not count students as well, which means if the same amount of students show up as last week (approx 3500) won't we have 11,500 at the game? Doesn't make sense as I don't think roos can hold that capacity.

Maybe students are factored in to the 8000, i'm not sure, regardless it's nice that it still appears we will have fan support.

and although I wasn't at last weekends game, I heard the lines were long and there were complaints, but in reality if we have long lines to get into our football games, thats a good problem to have :thumb:
