Phil Nelson mentioned among the nation's top transfers:

I'm really excited about his offense. I wasn't keen of the really long three he tossed up, that makes me think that his shot selection may at times be suspect. Who knows, it's one game.

I want to see his defense. He, among others, were not getting back against WOU last night. With his reach, he could be fantastic on the defensive side of the ball.

can anyone tell me how or why he tranferred? all i hear is he is reallly good and was good at UW. Why would he transfer? Is there more ot the story?

He was barely used as freshmen at UW. He didn't play defense. I wished he would have stayed though because he has the potential to be a great shooter.

Some years ago we had a pretty good shooter - Willians. He didn't play much defense either. We'll see if Bone cleans this up.

I suspect that Geving and Bone won't put up with a player not playing defense. When I say 'playing,' I'm talking about effort, not natural ability. I recall our newcomer of the Year in the BSC, Dupree Lucas, riding some pine for taking bad shots and not playing within the game plan. Same should apply for Nelson and his defensive effort.

Phil doesn't play defense...He transferred from UW to be closer to home. His family down in Salem couldn't make the trip up every home game in Seatlle.

Looking forward to the day Phil Nelson starts clicking on both defense and offense.
