Pick Your Poison

Pack it in and defend the paint and 3's will rain down upon you. Try to defend the perimeter and Jois will eat you alive. This team will score on you big either way. Now, they need to maintain defensive intensity and this will be a great season.

Mostly true. There have also been games where Eastern just flat couldn't score (ie Seattle). This team just needs to find rhythm and consistency.

This is without a doubt one of the most impressive starting fives offensively that I have ever seen at EWU in my many years as a fan. The great part is, I think there is still room (quite a bit of room) to improve on offense. There is still a lot of room to improve on defense as well. A LOT!!! We won't lose many games if we keep scoring over 100, but there are going to be off-nights that we could lose to anyone in the league if we don't D-it-up. That being said, "pick your poison" is correct. We really have no weakness on offense now that Harrell is in the starting lineup. I even believe that our bench is very talented, but very young. Getting them experience will be key this regular season because we will without a doubt need depth come Reno. We have 4 starters that can make you pay bigtime from 3-land, and a monster of a beast in the middle in Jois. We have the type of team that could make a good program pay late in March. I still think there will be a few speedbumps ahead, but all that matters is that we're peaking in MARCH. In the meantime, let's work on developing a nasty attitude on D. Without a gritty D, don't plan on much in March. Offense doesn't always travel, but DEFENSE does. I know it's fun to watch our boys score 106, but I would rather watch us win 71 to 68 in grind-it-out kind of games. That's what March will be like. Those games develop character. Don't get me wrong though...I love that we can light-it-up on Offense.

go eags!

That was the 4th game of the season. Much different team now.

Can a team just switch to playing defense? Isn't good defense a frame of mind?

That was an impressive weekend of basketball, albeit to a couple of teams that weren't picked to finish that high in the Big Sky.

I really like the size that Harrell brings to the SG position, and it's nice to be able to bring Sir Washington in off of the bench as a 6th man (he had a great game).

I don't have a lot of doubt that we can win most of our remaining Big Sky games. I wish we had a little more size on the interior, because against the big, physical teams, that's where we get exploited defensively. With this style of offense, we really have to be "on" to have a chance of beating a big, physical team like we saw during our road stretch out East.

But yeah, we look like a different team than we did just a few weeks ago.
