This is pretty neat, but I must admit the first thing to come to mind when I read this is the "one of these things is not like the others" song from Sesame Street.

What, you mean PSU is barely mentioned if at all in local news reporting this while UP is? I'll admit to some sensitivity on the subject...

After we defeat the Pilots a few times we will gain some respect here for our basketball program. Until then not so much.

UP is half (well, maybe 25% given conference) of the one of the things that is not like the other.

"The schools have combined for 23 National Championships, more than 85 Final Fours, more than 380 NCAA Championship appearances and more than 680 NCAA Championship wins"

UP and PSU have a combined four appearances in the NCAA tournament with zero wins. Don't get me wrong, I think this a great opportunity to get the PSU name out there for men's hoops with this tournament, but man, we're a bit out of our league.

We have to use this as a motivator. We will have a game against a great team as we did against Kansas in our last appearance with the Jeremiah Dominguez- and Scott Morrison-led team.

The experience is what matters most, and the opportunity to play to our utmost. The percentage of our points scored versus that of our opponent can serve as a metric for progress. Portland seems to play such teams quite well, whereas we tend to bow to them more. We need to develop a more fighting spirit attitude in such games.

We have the opportunity to go in as the greatest underdog team in the tournament. Instead of folding, we need to become more Weber State-like and think in terms of giving them a run for their money and gunning for an upset. We need to gear up and "play them for real" in our own backyard. This is a great chance to gel and catalyze our level of play. What else would one recommend?

Remember the victory in Spokane against No. 7 Gonzaga? We need to recount the spirit especially of Jeremiah Dominguez. We haven't done that yet.

"All games will be broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2". Even our games. It is a chance to get the school and the brand some national recognition, plus some early season buzz if we were to knock off one of the heavies. Remember, this is Our Town.

Tickets are on sale to see us whoop up on Duke, UNC, Gonzaga, Texas, or whoever they put us up against. :-)
