Nice write up in the Standard.

Davis and Porter have officially left the team. I wish them the best in their future careers.

1. Damian Lillard JR
2. Scotty Bamforth JR
3. Kyle Bullinger SR
4. Frank "Mook" Otis JR
5. Darin Mahoney SR
6. Byron Fulton SOPH
7. Kyle Tresnak SOPH
8. Jordan Richardson SOPH
9. James Hajek RSFR
10. Shai Fields FR
11. Michael Brown FR
12. Gelaun Wheelwright FR
13. Davion Berry TRAN JR (sitting this season)

13 = 13
Will Rahe bring in any Walk-ons?

My only concern for next season is the SF position. Yes, Bull can play 35min, but who is going to back him up?

My guess is that they go small with 3 guards with something like Lillard, Richardson and Bamforth playing together, or they could go big and slide Otis down to the 3. I have a feeling that Fields will play the 3, but Im hoping he red shirts this year. Im sure Berry will start the 3 next year after Bull is gone. Lillard Bam and Berry. Yikes thats a good looking starting guard line in 2012

I really don't see much of Rich, Lillard, and Bamforth on the floor together. I could see Otis, and Fulton on the floor together with any one of the 3 Centers, Hajek, Tresnak, Mahoney.

The only time you may see Otis and Fulton on the floor at the same time is as a 4/5 combo. Otis's vallue is within 10 ft of the basket and, although Fulton can shoot the outside jumper, he has trouble defending out there. A more likely 4/5 combo would be Tresnak and Hejak. The back up for Bull may well turn out to be Michael Brown. He is athletic enough to handle bigger players and can shoot the lights out. Fields is more of a point guard and wheelwright is a tweener. He will probably play in an off guard position. Who will red shirt is anyones guess. It could be anywhere from none of them to two of them. It may come down to injuries or who comes in the best shape to hit the ground running. I don't think anyone will know until it happens. Not even the coaches.

Really disappointed to see BJ porter leave. The guy had a disappointing season but I still see the flash of greatness he showed me in the Purple/White game last season. Don't forget when the BYU swat! I really feel for a guy who plays through injuries only to be given up on. Not saying the Rahe has given up on him, but the Coach has to move on eventually. Still with the team in place there are going to be MANY great players that are not going to get playing time. Porter just found himself as an upperclassmen who wouldn't see the court.

Agreed...I don't think we will see Otis and Fulton on the floor together very often. I think, if Rahe goes to a smaller lineup, we will see Mahoney and a Otis or Fulton matchup. However, I wouldn't be shocked if we saw a Tresnak or Hajek, Mahoney, & Fulton matchup. I think that Mahoney could play the 5, 4, and 3 (even though that is a stretch), but he has proven his ability to guard the perimeter in the past, especially against UM's Selvig. Fulton and Otis are definite PF's. Otis, might be able to defend the perimeter, but offensively he is an inside only type of guy. Saw him and Bamforth shooting at the gym yesterday. Pretty impressive seeing Bamforth shooting this early after his surgery.

As for Tresnak and Hajek...two solid centers. Tresnak, for a freshman, did a great job. He has some good looking moves and will get to the point where opposing teams will have to double to stop him. Hajek has a nice looking hook and can extend the defense. That is extremely important for Rahe's offense. In his offense, his Bigs have got to be able to hit jump shots. I'd love to see Tres or Hajek get to the point where they can step out and hit a three like Allred and Art. That would make Weber beyond dangerous and force open the middle by spreading the court.

As for the Fresh. I think its nice having three players who are multi-dimensional. All three can handle the ball, and if needed, can play the point. From what I have seen, they are excellent defender, especially Brown, and they all know how to score. No matter, the college game is soo much quicker than high school ball. They will each need to work really hard this summer to be ready for it. I think it could be wise to have Lillard work out with them in June, when they all come together for a month just to give them an idea of how hard you need to work to be successful.

The nice thing about our team, is that we have improved in tallent and athleticism every year that Randy, and crew, have been here. At the same time, the BSC has been getting steadily better as well. Next year we will be able to match up well with anything that gets thrown at us. We can play 'BIG' ball if we want to, or go small and quick. We can pack it in or spread it out. We have the depth at guard to show more presure on defense. We can really present a lot of matchup problems for other teams. The really, really nice thing is that we only have 2 SRs. The foundation is there for us to be a high level for quite some time. We just need to keep the crowds growing. :coffee:
