I know, I know 7 D1 wins, but what if there are not 20 teams that have 7 D1 wins?
I know, I know, Portland State will have the edge on us in head to head, but is there any hope?

I will leave the analysis to others and offer just what might have been. After traveling to Pullman last night and watching a terrific football game, it makes me wonder where our program would be if we had scored a TD or settled for a field goal and won the UW game in overtime. My dad was a Husky but that doesn't make me dislike their fan base any less. It counts as a loss and we're beat up pretty bad since the UW game but the Eagle win last night was one for the ages. To beat a team with a 4-0 home record that is joining the Big Sky is huge for the new Big Sky and for California recruiting. The UW game was one of our toughest losses ever but it will be huge for our in-state recruiting.

When we win our next national title, our fans will look back at this 3OT win just like we look back on the tough playoff loss from 2009. We have a football program, not the occasional winning season. Paul Wulff is part of that, as was Kramer. Dave Holmes and Dick Zornes acccomplished something special in Cheney, following up on the foundation Red Reese laid down decades ago. If it was the 20 best teams from the 20 best programs, we would be in this year. Too bad it won't happen but buy your season tickets for 2012 as soon as they go on sale. It will be another special year. See you all in Moscow Sep. 1 and in Pullman Sep. 8. The Montana game in Cheney on Sep. 29 is our first home game. How perfect is that? Our toughest home game in 2012 but let's win it and roll on, just like in 2010.

Next order of business is to beat Idaho State. Biggest game of the year, as having another winning season is so crucial for recruiting. Winning next Saturday makes this another great year, although it was incredibly disappointing. Averaging 9,000 fans at home, proving we can play with anyone and overcoming adversity were some of the accomplishments this year. What a great coaching staff we have.

Ironically enough, Delaware is probably also out of the discussion due to a DII game. Right now it looks like there may be a 7-DI team like YSU, ISU, Central Arkansas, or JMU who's bubble gets burst next Sunday, so no, we are out for sure.

Season's like this happen, but as I mentioned in another thread, I think this year is more reminiscent of the 2008 year where we had really high expectations, stumbled in the middle but closed with three solid wins to finish on an up note. The freshman and sophomores that experienced that never quit mentality became last year's juniors and seniors that took it to the house. Here's to this year's McCarthy's, Talley's, and Mitchell's becoming the future Sherritt's, Jones, and Kaufmann's.

No playoffs, that's for sure. Yesterday was the perfect stomr form Portland State... aside from barely beating winless UNC, all the teams that would have benefitted them to lose won, incl. Youngstown over a highly favored UNI.

Bummer to see we are still working with such a horrible schedule for 2012 that looks to keep us out of the playoffs for a second year.If someone can explain to me what the logic of having our first home game in the 5th week of the season is, I'd love to hear it.

What's worse, opening with two FBS teams on the road or not playing at home until week #5? Who cares, both are terrible and show negligence on the part of the people entrusted not to make these kind or burdens to success.

Great post. When we started off 0-4, I was starting to question whether or not we'd be able to have the opportunity even play for a winning record, let alone make the playoffs. The great win last night puts us into a position to at least play for a winning record. A 6-5 finish, although not stellar, looks a lot better than a 5-6 finish, and is big for recruiting.

Brutal season in terms of the schedule, super-high expectations, and the ridiculous amount of injuries we had. But I've been real proud of how our team has fought to win some of those games, and even in a couple of the losses. Down late against both Sac State and Cal-Poly to score and put the game into OT and come out on top. :notworthy: After last night, I hope we have enough left in the tank to beat Idaho State on Saturday!

Go Eags!

I don't like the fact that we're playing 2 FBS games, either. But the crappy part of being on the quarter system and having classes start so late is that it almost doesn't make sense to try and schedule a home game in the first 3 weeks.

Nonsense, lot of schools are on the quarter system and schedule home games. Plus, historically Eastern has ALWAYS drawn better in September- whether school is in session or not- as opposed to other months.
