Weber or EWU??
by weberwildcat » Sat Nov 21, 2009 6:28 pm

WSU finishes the season 7-4.

Assuming EWU wins game right now (up 42-28 in the 3rd) they would finish 7-3 IF DII wins don't count?

WSU wins the head to head in the tie for 2nd place in the sky at 6-2.

Could both get in?
Would only EWU get in?
Would only WSU get in?
Does EWU's win over a DII help them over Weber? Or is WSU's 4 losses too much?
A lot of teams we thought would win have lost - lafayette, UNI, liberty

WSU losses: Wyo, Colorado St, UM, MSU
EWU losses: Cal, UM, WSU

Big Sky Final Standings:
1. UM 8-0
2. WSU 6-2
3. EWU 6-2*
4. MSU 5-3
5. NAU 4-4*

I think only 2 Big Sky teams get in: um (lower case intentional) and WSU.

ewu does not get in because they have not had any signature wins (unless you count msu as a signature win).
WSU has beat ewu head to head, nau, and CPSLO.
I also think that the nod goes to Weber for the following reasons:
1. Head to head victory against ewu ON THE ROAD.
2. Strength of schedule.
3. ewu is tainted - even though they were not officially kept out of the post-season, I think the committee will step up and do the right thing and not reward cheaters.

Why would the NCAA remove the ban only to turn around and replace the ban, although not officially? If EWU is not selected, it will not be for that reason. Even if the Sky only gets one at large, there is no question they deserve two. That's indisputable. EWU and WSU are two of the best eight teams who could get an at large. The only question is, will the committee do the right thing and select both?

I hope everyone is right and we get in. However, I think that we had ALMOST everything fall into place for us. If EWU had lost (great game - I love Big Sky TV) then we could have pulled an RSL and gotten in.

I think two BSC teams go and despite a head to head win....we get left out.

I HOPE I AM WRONG!

I hope I am buying plane tickets to St. Louis or Austin this afternoon.

Two different snaps and this would all be assured and we would be playing at home next week.

Early word is BOTH:

"Eastern Washington University, after winning its final four regular-season games, was awarded one of the eight at-large berths in the 16-team Football Championship Subdivision playoffs on Sunday.

The Eagles (8-3) will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, on Saturday to face Stephen F. Austin (9-2), which earned an automatic berth after capturing a share of the Southland Conference championship. Game time has yet to be decided.

Eastern, which tied for second with Weber State in the Big Sky Conference standings, last made it to the FCS playoffs in 2007 when they advanced to the second round before losing on the road to eventual national champion Appalachian State.

Unbeaten Big Sky champion Montana was awarded the top seed in this year’s playoffs and will entertain South Dakota State in a first-round game in Missoula. Weber State also received an at-large berth and will open on the road against William & Mary."

However who we play depends on what news story is correct:

Southern Illinois, the MVFC regular season championship, earned the No. 3 seed and a first-round matchup with Weber State.
