Playoffs?

Will the Big Sky get 6 teams in the playoffs? Doubtful. Five is the most I see.
EWU
MSU
UM
SAC
UCD

Unless we see major implosions by UM, SAC, or UCD, Weber stays home this year. Had to win one more game against MSU, UCD, or JMU.

Prove me wrong…

If Weber State runs the board from here on out…a big if, still, they should be above a few of those in the standings. UC Davis still has to play EWU and Sac State. Montana still has to play Montana State. That could put those teams at 3 conference losses. I think four is the most the Big Sky gets regardless of if the teams deserve it. I’ll explain why. The CAA chairs the committee…that probably will get them 6 like last time, 😂. The Montana AD is the Big Sky rep on the committee, so I bet the Grizz get in even if they finish with 3 conference losses…hell, even 4…they’ll play up the UW win. With that committee configuration, no way Big Sky gets over 4 bids.

Although Weber State should be favored in every game, any of those remaining teams can beat Weber State. I think they get tied for 2nd or 3rd if they run the board and should deserve a bid, but the committee composition isn’t friendly this year.

It’s time the Big Sky chairs the committee and gets equally as a homer as the MFVC or CAA.

We can pass some of those teams in the conference standings, but it’s going to be hard to pass any of them in overall record. Let’s take a look.

Montana - 5-2

Vs Southern Utah
@ Northern Colorado
@ Northern Arizona
Vs Montana State

Should get to 7-2 easily. I definitely think Montana State is the better team. Can NAU upset them in Flagstaff? Stranger things have happened, but NAU hasn’t played well against the top half of the conference.

UC Davis - 7-1

@ NAU
Vs Eastern Washington
Vs Sacramento State

They better not mess around with NAU… I think Davis is a pretender. If we both end up 7-4, but they’re on a 3 game losing streak, who gets the nod?

Eastern Washington - 7-1

Vs Montana State
@ UC Davis
@ Sacramento State

There’s no scenario where they drop all 3 of these.

Sacramento State - 5-2

@ Northern Colorado
Vs Cal Poly
Vs Portland State
@ UC Davis

Haven’t been able to watch Sac this year so I don’t have a good feel for them. It would be lovely if they dropped those last two games.

Montana State - 7-1

@ Eastern Washington
Vs Idaho
@ Montana

They’re getting at least one more win.

Something pretty crazy will have to happen for us to end up with a top 5 resume in the conference. We only have 1 good win so we really need to root for EWU to run the table on top of the other help we need.

First, gotta take care of business and win five straight (I’m including the Cats win over Eastern).

Next, we need Eastern to win out, Davis to beat NAU and Sac, and for Montana State to beat Montana. This would put the Cats at the top of the league standings with Eastern, Davis and State. I think the Sky gets 5 in,

Weber has recent playoff history, strength of schedule, and 4 straight Big Sky Championships on our side. Finally, what matters now is where we end in the conference standings and how we play against like competition.

There is a lot of football left to play but Weber has to beat teams convincingly; if they can and climb back up in the national polls.

It works in our favor that JMU and Villanova may be the only two CAA teams to make the field. We should against Rhode Island and William & Mary.
