Have you noticed where the top 8 seeded teams are? All playing! Merely getting into the playoffs only extends your season a week or two.
Lucky for us Eagle fans, getting into the playoffs is an expectation. And that generally also means a seed. Other fanbases don't have that luxury so just getting in is a big deal. Imagine how ecstatic Northern Colorado fans would be to make the playoffs even as the last team in.
It’s interesting that Eastern has never played a first round game since the tournament was expanded past 16 teams. I’d imagine we’re the only FCS team that can say that. Even North Dakota State played a first rounder in 2010.
But yeah, it’s first about making the playoffs, but positioning for where you are in the playoffs is awfully important as well. Only once has a first rounder advanced to the finals.

Interesting that every year we played a drop down game (2010, 2013, 2014, 2018) we’ve made the playoffs, as a high seed, since 2010.

Here’s another weird one. What was the last regular season game in Cheney that wasn’t a sellout? Mad credit if you know this one.
