Pocatello Lunch

I live in Meridian but get to Pocatello several times each month. I've been meaning to try Havana's Cuban Grill. I've had the good fortune to have Cuban sandwiches in Key West and other south Florida locations. I love them. Ham, pork cheese on pressed bread. Mmmm! Today, I was in Pocatello for a business meeting and decided to give them a try. My Classic Cuban was pretty good... certainly different than the old standard club sandwich. They even had plantain chips (in a pre-packaged bag). Although it's hard to beat the Key West Cuban, my Cuban today was pretty darn good. I'll be back again.

What surprised me was how empty the place was at 12:30p. Do you guys know something that I don't?
 
It's on a busy corner, but it still isn't that good of a location. It's just far enough away that it won't attract the university crowd during the day. It's easier, and cheaper, for students to go across the street to McDonalds, Goody's, Subway, 5th Street Bagelry, or Jimmy Johns. It doesn't have a lot of room inside, and Oliver's, Buddy's, and Hooligans offer better lunch deals and more seating for those in the immediate area. Tom's Gyro's, Sumisu, and the Pie Hole also have good deals for workers in that area, and they are closer to the bars at night.

Quizno's didn't make it there, and not having a drive-thru doesn't help.

Have you eaten there? If so, what did you think of the food? It may not have the location and it probably is more spendy than most sandwich shops, but's it's not your average sandwich. Really, in my opinion, it's on a different level. My point is that in Pocatello, Idaho you can find a decent Cuban sandwich with pork, ham, cheese, mustard, pickle all on pressed "Cuban" bread. I'm not aware of Cuban's available in Boise area. That said, I can eat at McDonalds, Quiznos or Subway anywhere. When in Pocatello, I typically like to eat at local establishments, not national chains. I eat lunch at Goodys sometimes. They have decent sandwiches and are reasonably priced. Another place I really like is the Portneuf Brew Company (I think that's their name). SLCBengal gave me the tip on this place. I like them BIG!
