I think that's everyone's reaction (including mine). FWIW, that's not a finalized logo. The final one will be a very similar to this, though.

If it comes down to the official logo vs this new one. I would say I am not a fan of the new one.

I'm sorry. To me it looks like some really bad animation. Get rid of the purple on the face and stick with the grey it might be better, but it would still be too cartonish for me. It isn't a logo the university will be able to use long term. Thats the problem, Weber changes its logo every couple of years. We need something that can be used for the long haul not something that will be replaced in 2016.
I've always hated the shield, it is hideous, outdated, & contrived.
Eliminate the purple in the face & possibly the paws & the gray outlining around the entire logo. It would look so much better, & not like a cartoon.
As it currently stands, I think egriz is spot on with this comparison:

i also do not like it as a replacement to the current logo.
i also like the current logo more than the bookstore logos. i do like the bookstore logos and have a bookstore logo hat, just dont like it more than official athletics logo.

I must be in the minority, cause I actually really like it now, it really is just a detailed version of the older cat, but like I said before make the whole face grey and it would be better.
But I do like it, the combination of black, purple, white and grey looks really sharp.

The logo isn't that important to me either. I prefer a simple block W when I buy Weber hats and simple writing when I buy shirts, etc. (guess I'm a simple guy). With that said, I'm not a big fan of either the old logo or the new one. The new cat face alone isn't bad (it's actually kind of growing on me), but the whole cat face, claws, and Wildcats logo is terrible. Looks cartoonish and makes the cat look like a little kitten wanting to play. And I agree, leave the face one color. :twocents:

Several MLS soccer clubs use a shield in their logo (including our own Real Salt Lake, and LA Galaxy off the top of my head) the shield doesn't seem so outdated to them. I personally love our current logo. I also think the new logo looks a bit too cartoonish... Kinda like UVU's current athletics logo (They don't really look alike, but they both look cartoonish no doubt.) Now that I think about SUU's logo is cartoonish as well. I say avoid that crap and stick with our current logo...
But IF this is the secret logo that wins us titles and such, go for it. Winning is always more important. I do feel attached to the current logo tho.

Maybe it's not outdated, but it is hideous, & contrived. What does it say when a high school has our logo "Whitney High"... also Weber High has a shield in their Warriors logo.
I would also rather go Retro
i like the classic Block W, & the half court cat on the hardwood of a decade ago.
Hopefully something classic gets picked, & placed at midfield at Stewart. (Looks as if it's still missing something)... also get the hideous shield of off half court.
