Portland State is good.

Good effort by the Viks ! It would have been disastrous had the Bears lost, with Ohio State and Oregon the next two weeks. Sonny Dykes and the Bears dodged a bullet.

While I'm impressed with what they did, I was simultaneously scared to death about the affects of a PSU win in the future. After what we did to OSU and Colorado and what EWU did to OSU last week, had PSU won, we as a league may well have been relegated to scheduling Humboldt, SOU, and maybe even Menlo and Carroll for the next several years for the simple fact that the Pac-12 would be running scared of us.

I hope I'd be wrong about the loss of money games, but I'm not so sure....

What are the chances that the Big Sky as a division (excluding schools who couldn't meet the minimum requirements) jump up to FBS? There is always a chance that winning against the Pac-12 is actually strengthening our position and reputation.

I would HATE that idea, 25. FBS is worthless...unless you're in a B(C)$ conference...which in our area means the Pac-12...and the powers that be will NEVER let that happen. Give me good ol' playoffs over a no-name bowl that will cost us money we don't have....

I have to agree with SH. There is little advantage other than ego for mid major FBS football over FCS.
The landscape of college football is still in the process of change and we don't know how it's going to end up. The only FBS teams that really do well financially seem to be from the elite conferences and that's a closed club. I agree with the BSC commissioner that some sort of merge between FCS and the lower level FBS may eventually take place. The additional 23 football scholarships and the corresponding addition of women's scholarships or cutting other men's sports for FBS football is not worth the potential reward.

GL makes a very good point. Prime example: Nevada. They have only six boys sports, alongside ten girls sports. We're fortunate to have eight boys sports (some are schollie-limited, yes), compared to eleven girls sports (really more like nine given that XC is a form of track and beach VB is another form of VB). There may be worse examples, but I'm not forming my Yahoo! query correctly. One can only assume that given Title IX and budgets, we would either be forced into the I-AAA ranks sooner rather than later, or we'll be reduced to a couple of male minor sports and lots of female minor sports, because most female sports don't approach the schollie demand of football...short of adding women's football, which won't make sense unless we can convince other schools to follow suit. As much as I would love to see THAT happen, the likelihood of it coming any time soon is near zero. We get to keep our fairly-well balanced athletic program (with some decent success in some areas) by staying in FCS. I like that....
