Portland State @ Montana Thread

Geez, Jordan Brown is done for the year now? We must be getting low on crutches. :-(

Although Jordan will not be on the field he will be rooting for the Viks to "eat Griz meat"! He wants badly to play in these last three games, but he's very sure we can handle their passing and running game. He is waiting for confirmation on the extent of the injury, which we should find out by today or Friday. He's got a great attitude about going forward to next year and will be ready to play as soon as the Dr. ok's it. As he stated, "I'm coming back bigger, stronger, and faster"! He is a total believer in the defensive system and the coaches and feels with a year of seasoning the results will be far better. Thanks to all who have kept him in your thoughts/prayers and remember, let's watch the game at 11:00 AM, Channel 37 and cheer on our Viks!

Sorry couldn't resist.

It will be interesting if PSU's pass protection can match up against Montana's front as well as they did against Weber's.

I'm surprised to see so many Big Sky fans in favor of PSU this weekend. Lots of people on different boards have us winning.

I don't know......figuring they are a lock, Montana may be looking to the playoffs and not at PSU. Hell they may even decide to rest their starters and start their backups, figuring they are as good as the starters.

Don't know if the Griz ever overlook PSU, but especially doubt that they will after PSU hung 68 points on Weber State.

From what I understand, Weber State didn't try blitzing. Look for Montana to bring the house. I don't see PSU's offense having the same success vs. Montana.

ISU brought the heat and look what it got them.

White can't seem to find the hot route on the blitz, so hopefully Hubel can. If UM works in the blitz and our frosh reads it correctly and reacts, well, you know what happens on any given saturday boys.

I see Hubel putting up fairly big numbers (250+), but I see the Griz working some ball control offense in, and keeping him off the field as much as possible. It will be up to PSU's holesome run defense to try to keep it close.

Condrew Allen is supposed to start in place of Brown according to the Beseda article about Hubel. If this is so, I'd wager the defense may look a little more cohesive tomorrow.

I hate losing, but we had a pretty good showing yesterday in Missoula.

A couple things stuck out. First off, I don't think that Montana has the offense to go deep into the playoffs. Bergquist is an average quarterback and seemed to lock onto receivers a bunch without looking elsewhere. Last years defense would have eaten this guy for lunch. Another thing is that Montana's tackling on defense is excellent. Wonderful open field tackles that if our receivers/backs were to break the tackle they would have gone for good gains.

Hubel is pretty dang good. A true frosh walks into WA-Griz and leads PSU on an 8 play 69 yard drive to get us on the board first. I was a little concerned how he'd look in that environment. Also, that 2nd drive was looking good, and that ball should not have been an interception. The ball was put on the receivers hands and the defender made a heck of a play. I was very impressed with the way that he stayed in the pocket and believed in his offensive line to give him time.

Great offensive line play. Biermann is a stud and was pretty much a non factor for UM. Great goalline run blocksing to get Ne into the endzone for a couple of scores.

Special Teams stunk and probably cost us the game, again. That fumbled punt (not Joseph's fault) was a big one. Our kick coverage was poor and how in the hell do we get caught napping on that attempted onside kick. We were lucky UM was offsides.

The defense looked much better, but we still have some serious issues in the secondary. Receivers shouldn't get that open and holes in the zone shouldn't go for long TDs. We had about four passes that could have been picked by defenders that would have made a huge difference, but I guess that's the way the ball bounced. Hats off to Jordan and Andy on their great games.

This was better than getting blown out, but coming up real close again stings...

MM, I know the games were at opposite ends of the season and things have changed a lot for the Vikes but do you or anyone else have any insight in comparing the Griz and Cowboy teams this year? Inquiring minds want to know.
