Well... that was ugly. One of the ugliest games I've seen in a long time. I didn't see a three game losing streak coming and we have the Montana's coming to town. How can we be tied with Idaho State! Really?? Same shot, different game. When is the team/coach going to figure this out? Again, we shot a worse percentage. Again, we fouled more. Again, we were doubled at line by ft attempts. Again, we let shooters shoot. Again, the other team had more assists. We do not play defense. We do not play team ball. We do under achieve. Too bad given our talent level and our preseason rank.

Great points 1990. The only thing we are doing well at this point is not turning the ball over (9 last night). Of course if you dont pass the ball it greatly reduces the probability of a turnover! 28 field goals last night and only 9 assists. That is a terrible ratio. We have become a selfish offensive team that doesnt defend very well and fouls waaaaaaayyyyyy too much.

At some point we (players, coaches, and fans) have to stop blaming the referees because it has happened when we've had Pac 12 refs...when we've had WCC refs...when we've had WAC refs...when we've had Big West refs...and now with Big Sky refs. Are they all wrong? When is Coach going to make some adjustments on defense to stop fouling? It's late January now and the same thing has been happening since the beginning of the season.

Such a promising season being pissed away! I agree with 1990 - Idaho State?!

This is a great point and I completely agree. There are always going to be ticky tack calls that go against a team, but when it happens every game, the refs are not the problem. I don't know why but they just can't seem to play defense without fouling, and they are giving up tons of free points every game.

Offensively you guys are right that they are not sharing the ball very well, but they are scoring points. The biggest issue has to be the defense and fouls, in my opinion.

The PSU loss reminded me of the one against Northern Colorado. We had a lead, then lose it because the players don't know what to do. Doesn't Hayford have to accept some responsibility? With a 3 point lead against the Vikings, shouldn't he have told the team to foul instead of letting them shoot a 3? And how does he not remind the team they're out of timeouts in Greeley? We're no better off today than we were a year ago despite having a MUCH more talented and deeper team. How does a team that loses to GU by 8 in the Kennel with 5 players fouling out, find a way to lose to PSU at home?

Good points 93bird. I don't like posing this question because coach seems to be a good guy, but is this a part of his learning curve? Is he over his head? To 93bird's point, to play as well as we did early vs GU, UCLA and Hawaii and then choke the way we are now makes no sense. We are regressing and making the same mistakes over and over again. So, coach is either not addressing the trends or the players are not responding to him addressing the trends. I am a confused fan and hope we figure this out. We are too talented.

can anyone comment on a rumor i heard about the portland state coach picking a fight with some students and yelling 4 letter words back at them?

Who cares? They probably deserved it. I doubt their coach yelled for no reason! No one has a license to be a jerk for no reason. The students likely had it coming.

Hayford did tell me (without me asking) that he told the guy they were out of timeouts, and Chiverton forgot and called one anyway... tough to say if he did or not, just throwing it out there.

But they have definitely had some late game brain cramps the last couple... tough ways to lose, there is no doubt about that.

We must remember that they are 18-22 year olds and they are not computers or robots. They are human and they are going to make mistakes sometimes. Chiv's timeout vs UNC is way down on the list of things that I am disappointed in. Continuing to foul like crazy, not playing good defense, selfish/one-on-one offense, the fact that we are really under-achieving

agreed 100 percent! yeah Chiv made a mistake and it happens, but there were other reasons the Eags lost the UNC game.

I'm sure they did. It's typically not classy for a coach to yell "go fuck yourselves" back at the fans though. maybe you feel differently.

How about this EdubAlum. Let me know where you work and I will come yell at you and be a jerk. I am sure you would stay classy! A ticket, in this case a free one, is not a free license to be an idiot.

I'm normally one to look past honest mistakes and not second guess. But at UNC and against PSU, play was stopped with :45 and :19 left in the games and we had the lead. Everyone on the team must know exactly what to do and what not to do after play resumes. As soon as Chiverton missed the back end of the one and one against PSU, I started screaming "Foul!". Two made free throws by PSU would still have kept them down by one with less than :15 to go. Not only did they not foul immediately, they allowed the Vikings to get off and MAKE a quick three AND foul in the process. I won't even go into the end of overtime. Anyway, that's my rant. I'll still watch every game this season and pull for the Eagles no matter what.

Good points 93. There was ample opportunity to coach. It comes down to discipline. We lack it during games so it should be little surprise we lacked it at the end of games. The patterns and trends are not good. This weekend is huge.

Sounds like you're a jerk right here on the forum. I'm not really sure why you're so upset about this anyway, he must be your bff. I wasn't judging the coach anyway, I just asked if it happened. Chill the fuck out.

Gotta agree with Edub on this one. While I'm sure that the students were out of line, we're talking about 18-22 year olds versus a grown-ass man. The difference here is the students aren't professionals representing an academic institution sanctioned by the NCAA.

I mean, if you're a Head Coach playing a game on a rival campus, wouldn't you expect to be razzed a little? It's part of the job. If you are in that situation and allow what equates to kids to make you upset enough to yell obscenities, you've got some issues. Just my opinion.

I see you point, but not a fan of folks thinking they can be idiots and say whatever they want, no matter how obscene or distasteful. I think folks should respect one another and if someone shows disrespect, they shouldn't be upset with someone fires back. While I am pretty devout, hence my liking Hayford so much, I don't always agree with "turning the other cheek". Didn't mean to offend you Edub.
