Continuing our run of playing the city universities at the Pavilion, the Portland Pilots come off the bluff and onto our campus on Wednesday, 12-5 at 7pm. The Pilots, from the WCC conference, are coached by former Blazer guard Terry Porter. They are currently 5-4 and come in to this game off a loss at Colorado, 93-69. Their best win so far probably is at Cal St-Northridge where they won 80-77. Former Portland State head coach Tyler Geving is an "interim" assistant coach for the Pilots, according to the Pilots roster sheet.

If you can't make it to the game, it is being broadcast on 910AM. An audio stream can be found here: https://player.radio.com/listen/station/910-espn-portland.

Nice win for the good guys, 87-78. I wish they could have kept the Pilots at bay when they were up 19 but I won't ever argue with a win. Wins are good. :thumb:

Game writeups;

From Nick Daschel, OLive (pretty good)

From Jackson Wagner, goviks.com (better one)

Good win.

Some thoughts.

- Seemed like the rim was smaller than the ball there for a while last night with all of the close range shots not going in. At least the 3’s were dropping.

- I love the fact that only one player (Boo Boo) had over 30 minutes last night. Although I’m not sure if Peery was distributing the minutes or the fouls equally last night. We sure racked up fouls in a hurry in the first half. I think UP was in the bonus with like 12 or 13 minutes to go in the half.

- David mentioned the attendance of just over 2k. I know we got a bit of a bump with it being the UP game, but how nice is 2k on a Wednesday night?

- Can’t say enough about our effort on the glass last night, especially on the offensive side. 74 field goal attempts vs a WCC program says a lot about that.

- We need some Mayhew out there. Grades come out the 12th, right?

- What happened to our pep band?

- On to BYU. Should be interesting to compare our performance considering that Weber State recently beat them.

And, tonight, Sac State lost to UP 67 - 76!

That was the Hornets first game against a school from outside California. They still have some decent wins over Northridge, Fullerton, Davis and Poly. Only other loss was to Santa Barbara.

We had one of those nights when you can't hit anything and the other team is throwing in everything.....Portland shot 78% (14-18) from the floor in the second half, 83% (5-6) from beyond the arc and we shot terrible.....hard to win on the road that way....
