• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.
  • Hi Guest, want to participate in the discussions, keep track of read/unread posts and more? Create your free account and increase the benefits of your eGriz.com experience today!
  • Guest, do want an ad free experience on BigSkyFans.com among other benefits? Upgrade your account today!

Wouldn't this be our truer identity, that which we have in common with NYU & Berkeley & UChicago? Isn't this form of cultural expression seeking to be expressed at PSU? This is what OSU culture certainly is not and what the UO culture can emulate but only to the degree of a minor city scale, that which we can to the tune of a city more than three times the size.

Be warned though: Overt Hipsterism can be very polarizing at first. Right now, people seem to either love you or hate you. The best place to ameliorate this distress would logically be what might be called "Positive Hipsterism," the type that does not seek after instant rejection.

Negative Hipsterism is responsible for all the polarization ("I'm cool because I say so" kind of mentality). Such kind of influence needs to be exposed, opposed and flushed out. It's arrogant, hateful and downright stupid. This is a hateful side of Portland that I wish did not exist. No wonder it gets lampooned on Portlandia. We can laugh at it. We have the option, rather, to emulate the positive stylings of New York, Chicago and Berkeley. We're not limited to just Portland; we're more broad-minded. Our degrees will likely take us beyond Portland, PSU being the conduit and incubator.

This seems to be where the positive elements of Grunge Culture, Deadhead Culture, Society for Creative Anachronism Culture, Theater Culture, etc. can all come together to form a kind of cultural vortex for our university. This seems to be Portland State University's truer culture identity come into being, and it is a socially playful, fun identity. That's the great thing about a good university education -- it makes you into good and positive, contributing members of society. Here, with artful expression and vintage clothing.
