So, it is looking like two of our top recruits will end up being RED SHIRTED. I'll be the first to admit that I wanted to see all four play this season, but lets look at the positives. A RS will give these players a chance to really mature and to become very familiar with our program and how it is run. Most importantly, it will give them a chance to grow, to improve their physical stature, and to become far more acquainted with Division I basketball.
Could they play this season and contribute? Of course they could. But, the affect a RS has on them, in the long run, is far more important for their development and potential, and for us the fans, how much they will impact the program going forward. I'm sure we will be having this discussion again in a year (hopefully our football record is better then too) about Jordan Dallas, McKay Cannon, Emmanuel Nzekwesi, and Juwan Williams. What this tells us is that Weber has a number of really qualified and talented players joining the program who can and will keep the Cats at the top of the Big Sky Conference. We need to remember though, that these players are only freshman. A lot can happen and change from the time you are 18 to the time you are 22 and in some cases 23, 24, 25, or 26. I like giving a recruit the option of having another year to mature and to become accustomed to the level of play required for success.
