Post Game Thoughts

First things first: thoughts and prayers to all the guys who went down with injuries today, including the Eagles. Hated to see so many injuries.
--Best wishes to Micharl Sanders, who appeared to go out with an ankle or leg injury of some sort. It was interesting to see Tanner Gueller get some reps. Young man has some athleticism I had not seen before. Very small sample size but I liked what I saw from Gueller. Depending on Sanders' condition, of course, we may get to learn more about Tanner in the weeks to come.
--The defense played well enough to win. The offense gave up a pick six and a fumble deep in ISU territory right before half and the special teams coughed up the punt return. The defense was really responsible only for 24 points, which any of us would have taken as a final total.
--The special teams pain just keeps on coming. Zak Johnson finally starts drilling kickoffs into the end zone and the Bengals turn around and give up a punt return to the house. Just maddening. I'm about ready to start a fund to endow a full time special teams coach, followed by a FULL scholarship for a punter and a kicker.
--Cooper Kupp is a stud -- period. Look up the word "playmaker" in the dictionary and you'll see his face.
--The ISU o-line was way over-hyped and oversold this year. When your quarterback is getting rung up under two- and three-man rushes, you got issues.
--if I could give the ISU secondary an early Christmas present, it would be about four inches in height per man. How many times today were DBs seemingly in good position and EWU simply threw the ball over their heads?
--The ridiculousness of this schedule continues to amaze me. The Bengals have been on the road for a month, they come home and play ONE game, and boom it's back on the road again. Even if this were a good team, they'd have a helluva time building any momentum against this schedule.

Kramer stated on the post game show that they have at least six players that will have surgery next week. He believes that Sanders is done for the season.

I had a good time at homecoming today. Great to get back to the old stomping grounds. The first half was fun and had me believing.

Sanders was good at times and bad at others.

The defense played very solid in my opinion. Lots of young talent on D. I can'tell wait until their nuts drop. Especially on the D-Line.

Gueller is athletic with a solid arm. He locks on the same as or more than Sanders. His athletic ability is impressive. If Gueller is the man the rest of the year, I am in his corner. I hope to see him get better and to really start to mature. If Sanders has surgery, I would be surprised to see him as the starting QB again. Knee surgeries are so tough to come back from in under a year. Tanner needs to seize the moment moving forward and leave no doubt coming out of the spring. His chance to prove it begins now.

Next six men up.

Skippy is dead on. Get good punters and good kickers and take special teams to a higher level. Historically, ISU rarely if ever struggles with either, let alone both. It's sad.

I doubt Kramer will actively recruit and offer a full scholarship to a traditional punter and a field goal- extra point kicker as he has said many times he will never waste a scholarship on a punter and kicker. Maybe, he will offer a punt return and kickoff specialist a full scholarship but I doubt that will happen as he has said many times that he wants the ball secured withou a return as he believes it is his offense that needs to obtain yardage and score.

In no way do I want Sanders to be out for the season. But watching him get off the field at the end of the game, one inch limp at a time, even with help, I'm pretty sure he is done. I really thought he was breaking through. Makes me sad for him. Classy kid!
But.... with that said, Running quarterbacks are tough for everyone to defend, and APPARENTLY Tanner is a pretty good mix of a pocket and running quarterback. I loved how he took a few guys on head on to knock them over obviously determined to have a 35 yard touchdown run. He was on a mission on the last drive of the game! And the 4th Down before that, it took about 5 linemen to take him down! It will be fun to see him play against Sac State.
Best of luck to all the injured. GO BENGALS!!!

I have to think Sac State has the advantage going into next Saturday game. I hope I am wrong

Why would Sac State have any momentum? They haven't won a game, and got shutout this weekend by SUU.
44-0. Also they had the ball for over 30 minutes and only had 187 yards of TOTAL offense, only 10 first downs, 0 points.
How is that momentum? Thus the advantage...?

From the sounds of Kramer and lack of sound from all other coaches, there is more wrong than we know. particularly concerning coaching.
Kramers complete lack of patience with the media in post game is very different than I ever remember him being, it feels almost like he is taking his frustration out on them. I get the impression that he is unhappy with his coaching staff. AND blaming them for the losses. I guess as head coach he can do that.
I am feeling like the worst is over, but now I just hope the team doesn't fall apart so that next season blows up in our face too, due to malcontent on the team.

From the looks of it the whole team could use a little fun, get back to playing cause the game IS FUN.

ISU had the chance and lost that's it. Some good things the D improved, great to see ISU kick the ball off in the end-zone every time. The bad punting, QB play I feel bad for sanders he was starting to figure things out now we will start again. Play calling kind of funny we have not tried any trick plays except on punts, we should be using more sweeps and a revers just to keep the defense off balance.

The thing that was the most frustrating about the game was the complete inept reffing. The field goal that EW kicked 2nd Quarter at 8min the kicker stepped foreword before the ball was hiked. It was false start. should have been a 5 yard penalty. The refs missed more false starts, face-masks, late hits, CHOP blocks and numerous penalties. I was sitting on the third row behind the bench and you could see and hear the frustration of the team. The main thing is this is just a game we all Monday morning QB and talk about could of would of should of. ISU needs to file a formal complaint about this game and make sure that the refs are educated on the rules of the game for the protection of the players. I don't know if the refs are just incompetent or if they were instructed by the powers of the big sky to make sure EW won.

As for SAC if ISU can get the QB up to speed I think ISU has a good chance.

P.S. thanks for everyone that gathered for the cannon it was cool.

The reasons for Sac State having the advantage are: home game, Sac State wanting out of the cellar, ISU starting a new QB with small amount of game experience, and Sac State having some close games at home against EWU and NCU. Like I said, I hope I am wrong.

Sac State 0 - 4, ISU 1 - 3

I understand your thoughts. I hope you're wrong too. But i do apriciate your thoughts and sharing them. It makes it enjoyable to have people that care enough to participate in here. :-)
This will be Sac States homecoming game. Let's hope we keep the homecoming loss trend going. We beat North Dakota at theirs. EWU beat us at ours. We beat Sac State at theirs.
Go Bengals!

I knew we'd have a tough time with EWU, we usually do. But I'm really impressed with our Homecoming crowd of about 8900. That definitely exceeded my expectations and we've got some of the greatest fans in the world right here at ISU.

Kramer has a self identity for his team. Kramer self identity for the team (that I hear him talk about to the media) is no turnovers, good defense, score every time on offense without punting the ball, good quarterbacking, good coaching, and creating turnovers on defense and etc etc. The team agrees with Kramer. I agree with Kramer. So, why not play like that every play and every game according to Kramer's self identity for his team? Everyone has their own opinions to that question. I have one. It is called the competition or the other team ISU is playing.

Up for the challenge

So are you saying it's because of the other teams that ISU isn't having fun playing, or that the reason Kramer is blaming his coaches for the loss is because the other teams compete better??

I see a really frustrated Kramer because everyone else isn't seeing what he is seeing and not telling. Not that he has to be transparent.....

IMO I just think the coaches are devided when it comes to their play to play philosophy. I see Kramer with the heavy hand and a bunch of kamakazi offensive players trying to beat last season more than winning play to play. We all know our players are good enough to win every game. It just looks like we have been out coached in almost every position.
