Weber sits #15. Wichita State is 1, BYU 3, and Montana 20.

based on past years in this poll starting at 15 is pretty good. i was surprised to see st mary's so low. byu must be expected to be very good at #3. would be cool to see weber, griz and und all in the top 25 as the season progresses.

weber and griz have been consistent lately and are proven to be solid midmajors compared to the rest and und is new so i see why they didnt have too many votes. they will have hte chance to prove they are more than worthy as well so will we.

i know a lot of people dont care about this midmajor top 25 but i like to follow it.

the only western voters, 2 of the 3 were big sky coaches - PSU, UNC and St Mary's.

What about former Wildcat Dick Hunsaker at Utah Valley.

And Joe Callero from Cal Poly-SLO, Big West.
And Ron Verlin from Univ of Pacific, WCC.

What a Catcat... :flag:

I think a mid-major poll is stupid, but I still look at it through the year. This isn't fBS/FCS football but it is a reflection of that exclusiveness and why we see 6-7 teams from a single conference going to the dance while us little ol' mid-majors are left fighting for scraps.

Isn't SMC facing NCAA violations? Restrictions might be part of their ranking.

Well, another big reason why so many "Major" teams are going dancing is because they never leave their home courts in the preseason. New Mexico is a prime example of a program that stays at their house and only leaves, usually, once between October and January when conference starts and they have to travel. It is absolute garbage that the NCAA allows teams to stay at home. There needs to be some type of protocol calling for all DI teams to travel so many times a season, in OOC games. And tournaments should only count for half a game. It doesn't matter if you are Duke or Praire View A&M. There are 347 Division I teams. Technically they are all on the same level. They are Division I. I hate that Utah won't play Weber but is playing ISU at home. That really irks me, and that the mighty cowards will only leave the Huntsman Center once, @ Boise, till PAC-12 games start.

I'm a little shocked to see Northern Iowa so high on the list. Are they the Appalachian State of mid-majors? Living off hype from one big game and still getting more love than they deserve?

 YES!! I was waiting for that!...forgive us mid-level college BB readers that find excitement in the mid-major poll. It's because that's likely the only place we'll see Weber State & Big Sky teams listed until they can manage to beat a BYU, Gonzaga, or other nationally acclaimed "big boy" team on more than a rare occassion. Roll out that "cool kids band camp"report, I enjoy that also!

The cool kids at band camp list has been posted. It's official, we aren't very cool this year. We only received 9 votes.
