Prediction for Mommouth

Not sure who usually starts prediction thread but we are only couple days away. They were 4-7 last year and lost some close games to some good teams. I really have no idea how good we are but do think we will be improved from last year as I can't imagine we are worse. Thinking being first game with good QB'ing and WR corp. we will score. Sanders having the whole of defense in his hands will make a diff. game by game.
EWU has to win and will 40-24

EWU's offense looks poised to improve from last year, with all key players and the offensive coordinator returning.

On defense, there's potential for improvement, although I'm not banking on significant leaps, given the number of younger players in the two-deep rotation—8 redshirt freshmen and 6 sophomore. I feel we will be improved with Coach Sanders' new defensive style and the recent recruiting classes offer promise. I just feel they're a year away.

I'm excited to watch the special teams, now that there's a coach dedicated to this group. The return teams could be scary with Wortham, Chism, and Cronquist. This will be fun to watch.

I don't feel Monmouth's offense will be as good as last year, but still be decent. Not many starters returning and they lost their quarterback, running back (finished 3rd in Walter Payton voting), and wide receiver (led FCS in yard) from a year ago. However, the new QB is pretty impressive. Transfer from Maine who throw for nearly 3,000 yds.

On defense, they were top 10 in the FCS last year. They've brought in a new defensive coordinator from NDSU and I have no idea what to expect there, but coming from NDSU they will probably play disciplined defense. They have 10 returning players with starting experience, but that means at least 1 game.

EWU 42-31 with special teams playing a huge roll in game one.

We could have a large improvement as a team, I believe Visperas could make a large jump compared to last year with Ulm and Chism as safety blankets. Our defense can't get much worse from a team that was an INT in the endzone against an FBS team and a missed field goal away from a respectable 6-5-year. Also, we didn't have our starting QB against a good Idaho team and lost by 8 would we have won that game with Visperas who knows but it probably didn't help. Eastern could go 7-5 this year maybe 8-4.
Starting with a 49-35 win on Thursday.

Monmoth's coach has been there 32 years. Depth chart for Eastern is suspect at WR. Disgusted that so many talented WR's left the program, aside from the first 3, none remain. Gross. The offense should still porduce if QB's can avoid sacks, use their legs and if the experienced OL blocks and the good RB's run. Frankly, Monmoth is better than Tenn. State was and when I saw a few games (mostly against KSU) they looked very well coached. I'd give them the coaching edge. Statistically similar teams on offense last season.

With all the love for the the new DC, hoping for good improvement. There is depth on DL, DB and LB. Guess we'll see. Monmoth is the favorite in my mind except for the fact this game starts at 9 pm eastern time. Truly not a fair start time for any east coast team. Monmoths D is experienced with lots of seniors and grade transfers. Expect them to be tough.

This is a push. A lot of IF's for me on the state of Eastern football. The last couple of years this has looked like a program in shambles. Has it turned the corner? I don't see Eastern winning this one if it's close. The time differential may give them the edge they need but Best's record in late games isn't stellar either I don't believe.

Can't call the shot but Massey has Eastern 34 - Monmoth 28....

How about that Montana State comeback last week... that was fun.

lucky, saw that MSU game. QB Mellott had an off start to that game and New Mexico isn't all that good and thought MSU could/would win. If the comedy of error's would stop figured MSU could come back. What a finish though...most exciting....wow! MSU coulda won by a couple td's. If we win tomorrow even if ugly that will satisfy me cause if we lose afraid it will be a lonnnnng season. LETS GOOO!!!

Let’s be real.. if Eastern doesn’t win this one with relative ease, it’s gonna be a loooooong year. This is a dream home opener. Monmouth is a team that would be picked at or near the bottom of the Big Sky. They are akin to the Fordham team we walloped in New York a few years back.

Eastern wins 114 to -6
