Prediction Thread Eagles 41 @ Montana 57 Week 2 Playoffs

Looking forward to this one. Short week won't matter from a game planning perspective IMO except for all the motion and lead blocking McCann adds to the offense. One can hope anyway. Teams know each other and neither Montana or Eastern will be better than they already are or are they? As good as UNI's DL was, I still think Montana's is better with better db's.

The defensive intensity is more than a match for Montana's offense... Maybe that's why so many eGriz fans seem so nervous... If I was a Griz fan watching the last couple of Eastern games and specifically against a team very similar defensively and offensively to the Griz like UNI; I'd double the dose on my anxiety medications. If the Eag defense continues to play at this level, UM won't be able to move the ball without Haslam's influence with the officials (you have to laugh, right?). Will there be any flags on the Griz OL this game for holding?

This game could be a slobber knocker and it might come down to the weather... Sleet, rain and high winds or cold and clear (like the forecast currently says). If the latter, Eagles have a big advantage; if windy and wet, Eastern still wins but it will be more like the UNI type score.

Eagles 33 - Griz 17

Montana has twice as many TO's as Eastern this season. If this ratio occurs, I really like Eastern's chances. Massey has this as a coin flip today.

I dogged the defense last week and they stepped up. No reason not to double-down and see if the results repeat.

Our defense is terrible. Montana will likely move the ball all day and we won't get off the field. It'll be ugly.
No defense = no win

I'm rubbing my hands together as that's some crow I'd gladly eat.

I noticed this as well but can’t remember how big a factor (if any) TO’s were in the first game. I remember the blocked FG as a big momentum swing but don’t remember if they threw any INTs. Either way, positive turnover margin is a good stat. We’ve done a solid job of taking care of the ball minus the Weber game.

I really feel like we will win this game if we score in the low 30’s. There’s a lot of stock being put into our O versus their D, but I think it’s actually our defense that could be the X factor in this one. I feel like our D is underrated and Montana has scored only a single TD in each of their last 2 games.

This game’s probably a toss-up playing on the road but I can’t pick against the Eags.

Fair points. Their offense isn’t super prolific getting into the end zone but they don’t really have to be that great. Their scoring defense and special teams are exceptional.

Eagles picked off one pass in the endzone that would have been a UM td and another pass that left you with a short 32 yards before scoring. I’d say TO’s played a big part in the game just as they did in our loss to Sac.
I’m sure it will be a close game, as we have multiple starters back who missed the first game, plus It’s difficult to beat the same team twice in a season.

Each team had two picks. Eastern was able to turn those into TD's in the second half. Like you I think the D will hold Montana in check assuming special teams doesn't surrender good field position time and again. Lots of variables ;-)

This could easily be a 10-7 game but I think the short week works for Eastern and additional familiarity with the offense will lend itself to Eastern's O playing a more complete game this time around. Eag's are undefeated on the road this season. :thumb:

Dang Lucky you never cease to amaze me!! Didn't guess in a million years someone would pick that up! You're good lucky...dang good. I looked at his facial expression after each kickoff, fg and ex pt and I kid you not NO facial expression what-so-ever.

Henceforth, for the next 3 years when anyone here's "Stone Cold" from out of the crowd after a kickoff, fg, extra point or a tackle from "the last man back" on a kickoff you know he was christened at this very moment in time...so be it.

In the first game it appeared the MT coaches said EB3 is not going to beat us, so blitzed, blitzed, and more blitz's. By the 4th qtr the Mt defense was worn out trying to put pressure on him and/or the Eagles made adjustments to blow out the Griz in the 4th qtr.
Fast forward a couple of months, I doubt their old strategy will work the first three qtrs of this game. IMO we will score more points than that game. Eagles 42
I doubt the Eagles will kick to Flowers and there has been a lot more focus on special teams since we've gotten burned so bad in a few games. Our D has really solidified of late so I don't see the Griz scoring what they did last game so I'd say 24 is more likely. But we have been burned by big plays in a few games so I'll throw an extra TD just being generous so 31 is my guess.
