Prediction Thread Eastern 35 vs. Montana State 38

 Glad to be playing in the BigSky this week. I, for one, have no idea what kind of team Eastern is going to turn out to be. Definitely looking for some more on field leadership instead of the chicken with it's head cut off brigade we've seen to date.

Took the time to watch the 20+ min highlights of the MSU v Beav's game and honestly, MSU wasn't that bad. It's obvious their working on replacing some parts on defense but Mellott is a scary Bo Nixesque running threat who will likely befuddle the Eag defense time and time again. Oregon State was NO Oregon but they took advantage of 3 (?) INT's Mellott threw and their OL had a handfull of jersey on every running play.

Have no insight into the mind of the Eastern coaches. Not sure why there is such a gap this season between what I think I've seen and the way the players are being coached. Too many distractions? I'm ready to say the Chapin experiment should come to an end. Eag's need someone with a plan and the courage to fight for it. Haven't seen it.

I don't like Eastern's chances even with the extra week to prepare. There's a psychic residue that always remains from games like the one at Oregon. If miraculously the defense learned to tackle in the off week, if they make the Cats have to throw it, if the LB's play heads up and minimize large gains, if the Eag's spy Mellott effectively, if the OL can give GT the time he needs in the passing game and open holes in the VERY few designed runs, if EWU wins the TO battle... Christ.

Have to agree with most of the posters on the Cat's board. I could be wrong. Hope so.

Eags 17 -- MSU 38

That and Eastern's defense is awful. A few good defensive lineman but they got gashed through the air and on the ground against Tennessee State who certainly isn't a world beater on offense. I anticipate us running for over 300 yards and throwing 200 for at least 6 touchdowns. If defense responds but still gives up a few big plays, I'm seeing a final score of 45-24 MSU.

If the offense struggles in this one then its going to be a roller coaster of a season where you don't know which offense is going to show up each week.

I really hope the defense shows a lot of improvement, but it’s hard not to trust my eyes. This Eastern defense is every bit as bad as the MSU guy said from what I’ve seen. Maybe it just took weeks to get things sorted, who knows? But the Eastern team we saw in the first two games loses by multiple TDs because the defense can’t stand up to a strong breeze.

No doubt it would be great to see a team effort in this game.

sometimes I forget how hard coaching is. how clean the eastern program has been with Best. how they have performed given the limitations of the administration and general NW attitudes towards college athletics... maybe, I'll have to chose appreciating the rare individual moments over winning championships..

35-31 EWU

This is a huge game for us with Florida and Weber coming up on the road. I think we play well and win. Plus we own MSU and that won’t change on Saturday

:thumb: Thanks. Needed to hear that.

Sure like to see us win turnover battle and to have ball bounce our was way at the appropriate time. Then it would be appropriate to predict an exciting finish in an exciting game. Therefore an appropriate and exciting prediction is in order; EWU 38 vs MSU 6

Therefore a more exciting successful outcome would be EWU 38 vs MSU 37

Kylor may be picking with his heart over his head... We all do that.

I would really like Eastern's chances given the struggles that MSU is having rebuilding the defense and all the injuries on offense but it is impossible to overlook the hapless nature of the defense this season. I'm not Dopa jr here. I think there is more than ample talent to field a solid defensive squad so what we see on the field is nigh on inexplicable.

If the Eagles can get 5 stops, they have a chance to win this game. Less discussed was the "inexplicable" play of the offense against TSU where the Eagles went 3 and out 5 times and were stopped 8 times. This is a team game and in the past the offense was too good to get stopped by most BigSky teams.... Not this year. Eagles will need the offense to move the ball better even when there is no score. Not suggesting they should use the OL and run the ball more consistently, I'm demanding it :-)... Petulance probably won't work either.

Hope to see big strides on the offense and some application of lessons learned on defense. I'd go straight man with at least 6 in the box at all times, slide the LB's back a yard so they can read and react better and keep a spy on Mellott or a safety in a middle zone where they can react to the situation. For the most part, the Eag's have been in the right position (scheme) to make plays (bar a few instances) but haven't executed (aka TACKLED). If they tackle better today and the offense doesn't shit the bed 8 times, Eastern can win at home.

A lot of "ifs"

Eags 17 -- MSU 38

Eags double the output I expected and MSU is on the number. Can't fumble late in the game and can't rely on BigSky officials in Cheney.... Fuckers.
