Prediction Thread Week 3 UNI 30 @ EWU 34 WIN!!!

Apologies for being tardy.

This has been a difficult one to wrap my head around. UNI is a physical team with good athlete's that has beaten FBS ISU and lost a poorly played game to Montana. They are capable of beating anyone in the FCS.

Despite some injuries, Eastern has shown more physical toughness than in recent years. GG and team should be more comfortable this week (though geeked up to be playing in front of friends and on the Inferno). Could break it down in X's and O's, but tale of the tape tells me it's all EWU in this one.

EWU 42 - UNI 31

Micro predictions: Fast start with 21 in first quarter, 3 1st qtr D stops and big plays from Bourne behind the defense.

This week will determine a lot about this team. We think they're capable of being a top 5 team. We think the defense is better than the last two years, but now we have significant injuries that will test our depth. We think we have found the next talented QB that is a great playmaker with a bigger body than Adams and more speed and agility than West. We think this team should be beat UNI in Cheney.

We know this team has talent and we know they are a couple plays away from being 2-0 and probably ranked #1 in the county. I'm a little worried now about how the weather will effect this game. For the last 10 days it's been forecasted to be in the 80s and beautiful. As of this morning, it looks like mother nature is going to cool the temps, pick up the winds and give us some possible rain. That plays to the hands of a running team like UNI and last year, we had some home games where weather created chaos for our passing game. Here's to hoping a different QB will solve those issues, but it's probably going to make our kicking whoa's even worse. So here we go...

Coop plays because this game matters too much to not play and I don't think the risk of further injury is there, Eags get a fast start and a couple critical stops on D. Gage gets a couple big plays with his feet and passes for 4 TD's and runs in another. Shaq runs a kickoff back, and Eagles show us all they're ready for Big Sky play and a deep playoff run.

Eags - 42
Panthers- 28

:thumb: I like the way you think.

I think this will have a playoff feel. Both teams know this is an important game for potential seeding, and two losses doesn't bode well. Plus, both teams just want to win every time. I think it's going to be a dramatic heart pounder, just like the first two games. EWU's going to have a chance to win at the end with a FG, and this time will make it in, 38-35.

EWU 35
UNI 31

I don't think Kupp will play, but we have enough weapons on offense to move the ball. The other guys will have to step up.

Stopping Bailey will be a tough chore for our defense but if we play tough assignment defense we should slow him down enough to get the job done.

I watched their game against Montana and I think their QB is a better passer than what he showed in that game. He also killed us with his feet last year from what I remember. Still, I think we will have the slight advantage at home.

Eagles - 31 Panthers 28

So this is only my opinion, but UNI is going to be a very tough opponent! This looks to be a lot of the same group of skill players that went into PSU on their turf(last season) and smoked them in a playoff game. Also beat Iowa State in game 1 this year, and then couldn't get any offense going against the Griz at home and basically lost on special teams. With a power running attack (UNI), I'd guess I would play 7-9 in the box and dare them to pass. That's unless EWU can't stop the run. UNI stats thus far are very marginal in the passing game, so I'd try and take away their strength (running)! Looks as though EWU can attack their secondary and get some big plays. We are 0-6 lifetime against them, but all on the road. I look for some revenge this Saturday, plus the home opener with students in attendance(maybe not all of them yet), LOL! I hate to make score predictions, so hard, but I just don't see EWU dropping this one. 35-31 EWU!! But honestly, just get the W!!

Rain/cool temp/wind/doom and gloom and one loooooooooooooooooooong flight back to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the Panthers thanks to a low scoring 28-24 EWU win.

A low scoring game? EWU just put 44 on the Bison. We are going to churn up the points, the question is... can UNI keep up?

That was in a dome with zero weather factor. This game is supposed to be wet and windy, according to the latest weather forecast. It is a similar weather condition as the Weber game last year, but the winds are slightly less aggressive. We won that game 14-13, and only had 189 yards and 10 first downs.

If the weather negates our passing game, it will be running game vs running game, which is definitely advantage them. I think if Gubrud can keep the passing game going, we should do well. I think the wind and rain will make UNI run almost exclusively, and we can stack the box and defend the run. I just don't know that our D is strong enough to stop them, or our running game to compete with them. It all hinges on our ability to be effective in rainshowers and wind, something we weren't able to do last year.

I think the injuries and tough games are not nearly the factor in this game the weather is. Wish we had todays weather, as I think we would win handily. I do think we will see some life in EWU's running game tomorrow, and we will complete some big passes. I think if we win, it will be lower scoring than we'll feel comfortable with.

Despite all the injuries I think the team can control this game. What I saw in the game UNI played against Montana did not impress me too much. Since 42-28 was taken I will go with 41-28. I think we get them by a couple touchdowns.

Looking at the weather, rain is supposed to die down and stop around 4, right around kickoff. Wind still looks about 20mph during the game, but it was windy against MSU and Cal Poly last year as well and we did well. There is almost always a 10-15 mph wind in Cheney, so if it hovers around 20 tomorrow I don't see any issue. If it gets worse, it will affect the passing game...
