Prediction Thread: Will VA start for Oregon this season

We have an excellent team, coaches and energy going into 2015. After giving this some thought and watching some older games (season can't get here soon enough), wanted to start a pre-season prediction thread and although there is some pain associated with the topic, VA is top of mind on every board and sports site.

Itching to get the season started so here is a pre-season prediction thread.

Won't tell anyone how to behave, so have at it.

Predictions:

1.VA will join the Ducks mid August
2. Won't play against the Eagles
3. Will see a series or two against Michigan State if Lockie struggles.
4.Will start against Georgia State if Lockie can't make BIG plays down field, not sold that he can. Spring game wasn't a good test with some of the best offensive talent in the BCS around him and a defense that is definitely in "rebuild mode".
5. If Lockie wins MSU game, VA will never start for Oregon.
6. Oregon loses 3 games in Pac-12 play and most likely the MSU game. Helfrich exposed.

I have a feeling that VA made a very bad decision or should I say the people who influence him. Had he competed in the Spring and was allowed to work out with the team in the summer he may have had a chance. I really doubt VA will play much this year and as a result he will not be drafted. ( I doubt he would have been drafted even if he stayed at EWU - He is not a Russell Wilson proto-type that many people think, he does not have the stamina or the built of Wilson)

As far as the Oregon prediction, Oregon should put this away by the 2nd quarter (hope I'm wrong) but the only teams which have stopped Oregon have a big physical front and that we do not have when comparing to FBS teams. The only way we have a chance is to stop or put the brakes on their 2 big backs and I'm not sure our linebackers are physical enough to do it. This isn't a knock on our linebackers but I doubt any team in the country with the exception of Ohio State and Alabama can stop them.

I think he will get cleared on the academics side of the house and ultimately be the starter for Oregon. But I think there's a lot of reasons for why he won't be the starter against EWU in game one. He's arriving late to fall camp all the while trying to learn a new system. There's also the strange dynamic of putting a player in a situation where he's playing against guys who were his teammates a few months ago. It'd be kind of a dick move and frankly Oregon doesn't need to play VA to beat us.

My prediction...
VA will not start game 1. Although he will have to come in after one of our linebackers take our Lockie in the 1st quarter. Then the blood will be in the water and the Eagles will dine on VA....
Our D has been playing across from him for the last 2 years... No amount of dancing, shucking and juking will help escape their claws. they will be ready for that... Then its is up in the air if VA last until the half with all the beating he will be taking.

LB named Gall?

In answer to the ?...no, prediction is Lockie starts 1st half then Adams starts second half and then their #3 is in the 4th qtr. at some point. UO will look to score every possession..no quarter given. As always, EWU will surprise everyone except us.

I think Obzerver is close...but it is Oregon....and I think VA will take the first series or two against the Eags. That being said, he'll sit a lot of the EWU game, and my overall prediction is that VA will not take the most QB snaps for Oregon this year. I do wish him well, but not against the Eags!

I don't think he gets much time against EWU and Lockie probably starts against MSU. Depending on how Lockie plays against MSU will depend on how much VA sees the field this year.

He is just so far behind by missing spring, summer, and the first few days of fall this year. I do hope the best for him this year, expect week 1...

Interesting feedback so far on whether VA will actually 'start' at Oregon this season. Many think he will see time or start throughout the season. I wish VA well in life, but believe football at Oregon's level is BIG BUSINESS and not sure Helfrich wants to put his career in the hands of a player who couldn't get on campus and start winning the hearts and minds of his teammates.

Helfrich shouldn't have gone after VA in the first place IMO. On reflection, he may be smart enough to consider the old "two wrongs, don't make a right" rule. Guess I'm thinking Ditka and the Ricky Williams draft.

Didn't start this thread to predict the outcome of the game, going to wait for more fall camp information at Oregon and EWU before putting out a prediction. Will say this one might be closer than the pundits or the ESPN FPI rating would like to believe

I think he might play a little in the game against us, just to get some game experience in their system. Unfortunately, that game will probably over by the second quarter. Our players will of course bring it but UO will just be too fast and too big to compete with. Just hoping for minimal injuries.

Nope. I don't think he starts UNLESS Lockie gets hurt. I don't see VA establishing himself as a starter there because of the short time table he gave himself with the team.

So far Lockie has played well enough in camp and the spring to more than keep that job. He is a bigger player that has 3 years in their system. Huge advantage. He may very well end up a high draft pick when that time comes.

EDIT:
On top of all that, if VA doesn't play much don't be surprised if things get negative real fast at UO. Could tear the team apart even if Lockie is playing well, because the specter of VA wanting his time will come up every time the ducks O struggles.

He's better than Lockie, and been coached better to this point.

He's better than anything Oregon has at Qb, and I think most informed people know that. His disadvantage at this point is his inexperience in Oregon's offense relative to Lockie. From a talent persoective, I don't even think it's that close.
