Any bets on the topic? I am sure the Well will be mentioned and state budget but do you belive any miniscule mention of WAC interest and additional construction for the football stadium and new arena?

The last four years at this event have been a real boring affair.

Haha, I am talking about Sac State here, I should know better than ask if anything proactive or athletic related will be discussed.

I doubt any talk of new construction will go on, especially right now. I like how Gonzo keeps the athletics stuff on the DL, stuff actually gets done when faculty and some of the lame students dont know about things.

Yeah, but what about us 200K strong alumni? Would be kinda nice to know the goals, aspirations and future for our school instead of waiting year after year for silence.

Out of curiosity, what 'stuff' has gotten done w/o student or faculty awareness?

Yeah we're 200k stong, but the university doesnt have that large of a presence. For example, Drexel University, not even based in Sacramento, has banners in Old Sac, WTF (I don't care if they are located there). When's the last time you saw a Sac State advertisement, banner, flag etc at a local business or in the public right of way anywhere near downtown? It's hard to get alumni interested in athletics at Sac State due to the lack of support from the city, I see more ucd crap than Sac State stuff around Sacramento.

It could just be me, but I don't really get the impression that Gonzo and Wanless are releasing very much, or as much, information as they could/should regarding facilities and the direction they intend to head with the regard to athletics.

Sperbeck's raise and contract exyension wasnt made public or discussed until after the fact.

The whole WAC situation hasnt been discussed, pushing a student increase for athletics through without letting the students know he could do it before the vote.

I was driving down the road yesterday, and I saw Hornetsports.com with some graphics across the back of a RT bus.

I agree with Stung. More should be done by the current administration.

Heck, the only time you hear about Sac State sports on local sports talk radio is when they are talking about the damn UFL playing at Hornet Stadium, which is Utterly F'ing Lame.

Go Hornets!!

I would expect a more athletic oriented speech to come from Wanless. I think the purpose of this address is to encompass all entities of the University. As much of a part of the University athletics is, I think the main focus will be on how academic programs are going to stay afloat during the budget crunch and other similar issues. I agree athletics is a notable component of the University, but it shouldn’t be the primary talking point of a general address to the University.

But building a new $60M arena and $30M football stadium is and so is joining the WAC. How can anyone who wears green/gold have pride when there is nothing to look forward to and get involved with? Except how the 'man' is cutting off poor Sac State funding. I swear, if Sac State could accept food stamps it probably would.

How can Sac State stay ahead of the public perception arms race when the Bee publishes everyday another $1M donation to UCFE for research of horny toad STD's, etc.

The Well is nice, but is is only half of what was paid for, why doesnt the Bee do an investigative report on where the arena money went? They love to air out Sac State dirty laundry. Maybe it will jump start some transparency from the administration in this topic.

Has Wanless ever had an athletics based public address? He is about as silent as Al Capone, except when the Bozeman paper calls. Plus, Gonzo wouldnt let Wanless steal the thunder.

The UC ssystem is the largest for-profit enity in CA. And besides, you know how the CSU and UC are set up, ones a teaching system while the other is a research system. The UC will never, NEVER let the CSU offer what it does, they'll keep using the out of date and out of touch over 50 year old education master plan as their scapegoat.

But I would like to know where the funding went for the projects that havent come to fruition yet. I would also like to hear a direct response from Gonzo or Wanless regarding where they want and are planning to be as far as athletic affiliation.

I agree. You bring up some good points. I think we will just have to trust that these guys know what they are doing. It's obvious that they will not make much public until decisions are made. Unfortunately this leaves the alumni, students, and faculty left in the dark.
