PSU Game

Now that we have dispatched the Eagles, we look toward our game against the mighty vikings of Portland State. Its so boring at work today so I have been looking at stats and breaking everything down. On paper we should win this game going away. Statistically PSU is worse than EWU and we all know how the EWU turned out. PSU does at least try to establish an inside game. They are not big and they are one of the worst rebounding teams in the county. Our bigs, especially Bolomboy could really have a big game. Their starting PF and Center are 6 5 and 6 8, so we have a huge size advantage on them. PSU has some decent guards, but nothing that strikes fear. I think the game plan will be just like EWU. Pound the ball inside and ram in down their throat and pressue the perimiter with in your face man to man defense. I predict Weber State wins. 78 63. Go CATS!!!!!

Wazz; I like your optimism. I believe, and so do our coaches, that PSUs inside game is much better than EWUs. As a group, their guards are talented and athletic. Talent is not in short suply at PSU. The problems they have had related more with how they play together on defence. I agree with your thoughts on how we will attack them. That is the most likely way we would attack most teams in the BSC. I hope you are right on the score. We always seem to play well against these guys. I would be happy with a 1 point win. Just get a win, baby. :thumb:

Overtime win! Sounds like our fave ref, Rastatler, or what ever his name really is, tried everything in his book to give it to PSU. Nothing is guarenteed on the road in the BSC.

It will be nice to be home for a few games.

Congrats to Montana for getting their road sweep, as well. :thumb:

We were lucky tonight, I don't think I have ever seen a team get 7 points in 1 possession (made basket, 2 free throws off intentional foul, and a corner 3). Without that event and the 2 missed free throws by PSU we were fortunate to even get to OT. We need to put weaker teams away, they let PSU get their confidence up and it seemed the Vikings bigs couldn't miss during the game.

Not exactly what I predicted, but I will take it. Portland State played probably their best game of the year. Their two starting big guys played great. Their guards were solid too. They only had 6 turnovers and shot a high percentage. You could tell they really wanted to beat us. We were very fortunate to come away with the win. I loved how balanced we were on offense again. 5 guys were in double figures scoring and Otis and Bolomboy were great on the boards. Richardson was the MVP of the road trip in my opinion. He gets my vote for BIg Sky conference player of the week. Wheelright stepped up in a huge way. He was able to penetrate their zone and make some shots. His 4 point play was huge. I have never seen a AND 1 after being intentionally fouled. Great way to start the season 2-0 in conference on the road. I doubt PSU losses another home conference game. They are very tough. I could see them finishing 3rd in the conference now after seeing them last night. We have 3 home games in a row now. Yeahhhhh!!!!! I love this team. Go CATS!!!!!!

Great weekend for the Wildcats! Anytime you can get a 2 game road sweep in the Big Sky you take it!

I was also watching the Suns - Blazers game last night and Lillard was incredible. He was the best player on the court. He took over the game in the last few minutes like a veteran and scored the Blazers last 7 points on a few tough shots. The Suns announcers (Marv Alberts son and former Jazz killer Eddie Johnson) could not have been more complimentary about Lillard and mentioned Weber State over and over.

Damian making us proud!

Close call. I think PSU takes 3rd in conference. Our perimeter D was superb. PSU averages 16 3 pointers per, & got 2 off in an entire 45 minute game. Getting a little concerned with interior defense. Boner Davies has a career high on our home floor. PSU's 2 bigs score nearly 20 a piece. I wonder if we're sacrificing interior D for our stingy perimeter D?

Why didn't Fulton get in? All in all, glad we came away with the Pacific road sweep. I don't think this team has even scratched the surface of it's potential. I love that Wheelwright, and Richardson had big games. 15 turnovers to 6 of PSU's were the biggest disappointment.

If Weber were to purchase advertizing on these televised Blazer games, it would be costing us millions. Damian is a great player and a wonderful person. He is giving back to our community every day. Our small investment in him has payed off tremendously for Weber State and Ogden City. Right now, we are on everyone's map. I'm just glad that we were on Damian's map. :notworthy:

Weberski;

Yes we are putting more pressure on our interior defense, by playing to stop the 3 point shot. It should make our bigs into better defenders and, in the end, make us a stronger team. The next logical step is some sort of hybred defense that doubles on a situational basis. I think that, for now, the coaches are trying to keep it simple and let the players play a more fluid game within the structure of our system. :twocents:

big win for us.

a. on the road
b. home team has just 6 to's
c. home team shoots more than double the free-throws as we did

love this season...

i wonder if we will forget or take for granted how hard conf road wins are now that rahe has such a great record against the sky at home and away.

home 49-6 - not bad to have 6 home losses in ur 7th year
road 33-21
