PSU vs UC Irvine

Nice to get a win to open the season.

We were very sloppy at times with our passing, but the three point shooting seemed to make up for it. UC Irvine seemed to be really effective with their trap in the first half.

Why don't we press more with some of the speed that we have?

I think we are young in the post and pass receivers are still getting adjusted to passers. Jitters and knowing tendencies still to be worked out...hard to press for a whole game, UCSB game looked much better defensively; congrats to Jones for making the 1,000 point club! Lampman looks great this season. Greene brings a lot and Van B is her usual aggressive self, all fun to watch so far. Brock takes up tremendous space in the post, needs to pass out a bit more to work the inside/outside game to their advantage. Rivard has good instincts, wish she was taller - oh well then she would be somewhere else maybe. Eqwatu can be a tremedous rebounder and get lots of putbacks if she gets to play. Excited for the season. Some tough road games coming....

With UCSB and Irvine under our belts, the UO game put us up to the level we'll have to play over the next two weeks. We obviously can't do much with tall centers (30 points and innumerable rebounds) but our threes almost pulled it off. That's the way it will be against UP, Gonzaga and Nevada. Lanz was in for the first time, and she did everything expected of her once she settled down. With Lampman, Jones, Van B. and Lanz we're looking very good, with Samms and Brock trading off. Our freshman bench is going to be erratic, but they all look like they're learning. Glad to see we3've recruited a six footer and 6'3" for next year. It's hard to get the tall ones from the clutches of the Pac-12 and other Big Guys. Go viks!
