"OGDEN, UTAH - The annual Weber State football Purple and White is set for this coming Saturday, April 18 beginning at 12:00 p.m. The game will be played on the WSU Practice Field located on the southwest edge of campus and directly north of the high-rise Promontory Dormitory. Admission is free to the public.
The unusual wet conditions this Spring have saturated the natural grass field in Stewart Stadium, and to allow the field to grow and recover from last year’s wear and tear, the game is being played on the artificial turf field at the practice area. Fans will be able to enter the practice field and sit along the west side lines, or sit on the hill side along the road. Fans are encouraged to park in the lot NORTH of the field and enter through the gate.
Before the game begins, WSU head coach Ron McBride will speak at the "Wildcat Club Chalk Talk" beginning at 11:30 a.m. on the fourth floor of the Stewart Sky Suites. All fans are encouraged to attend and get the pre-season scoop on the 2009 Weber State Wildcats in a 20 minute briefing.
Coach Ron McBride returns for his fifth season at the coaching helm. The 2008 Big Sky Coach of the Year signed a four-year extension last November. Last year he guided the Wildcats to a 10-4 record overall, matching the school record for wins in a season, and produced the school’s first Big Sky football championship since 1968. WSU earned the Big Sky’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division I FCS playoffs. It was WSU’s first playoff appearance since 1991 and only the third since FCS began in 1977. Weber State stunned #3 ranked Cal Poly, 49-35, on the road in the first round, then lost in the quarterfinals at Big Sky foe, Montana, 24-13.
McBride and his staff return 36 lettermen including 18 on offense, 16 on defense and two kicker/punters. Of those lettermen, the Wildcats have 12 returning starters with six on offense, four on defense and two kicker/punters.
Weber State opens up the 2009 season on Saturday, September 5 when they play at Wyoming." WeberStateSports.com
