Fact or Myth? My friends and I were debating this and we all believe there should be different quarterbacks starting. We've seen 3 play this season. Do we have a controversy and who do you think should be at the helm? (Jason is the starter; however I chose Duncan)

There is no controversy and Saturday showed Jason Smith is the best quarterback on the team. Had he played against WSU, we'd be 2-0 in the Sky right now and 4-1 overall.

MBT looked capable, and Duncan did an admirable job against Weber, but Jason Smith has proved me and some other posters on this board WRONG with his fantastic play. I couldn't have hoped for anything better. Even though he's dinged up, he's playing better than any QB since Ryan Leadingham.

SHA,

We are SO close to being 5-0 it's not even funny. If Evander holds on to the ball or the CSU Frosh kicker shanks one of those FGs, or if Duncan snaps the ball as the 12th man runs off the field... Oh well...

I have to say I'm extremely pleased with the team thus far and think that next year we could be primed for a playoff berth.

I know, 8 points is the difference right now from being undefeated.............

IMO, he is better than Lead. He is the best since Ray.......

That's tough... Leadingham definately had a stronger, more accurate arm and great size (not to mention, Fred Amey). But, Smith has better pocket presence and quicker feet. I would say that Smith is catching up if not passing Leadingham's decision making level.

Smith is our guy now, and I hope he continues to grow at this pace!

I'll have to defer to those that have actually been to games, though I thought White did a fine job during the one game I listened to, coming in to relieve MBT. If I could get away with it, though, there's ANOTHER White I'd love to get back in uniform; he was one of the best QBs I ever saw at the collegiate level even if that dummy Pielstick didn't get it.

Garrett was not that good....he did well as a slot back, but he got flustered very easy in the pocket.

My vote goes to Smith. MBT looked like he was starting to settle in about halfway through the Weber game, and getting more comfortable, he has the stronger arm but Smith is far more mobile. I liked what I saw of White especially being put in a tough situation, he did a really good job once he got adjusted. Hopefully we can get through the rest of the year with Smith and MBT and be able to still get a redshirt for White. I for one am very happy about the way our team and program has progressed! At this point almost halfway through the season we are 8 points away from being undefeated. If Hilliard was able to play the second half at Colorado State and he and Smith played against Weber I think we would have won both of those games. I am also impressed with the quality of the recruits that we have brought in. It's nice to realize that this is a basically a very young team developing every game and playing very competitive ball.
We will lose Cyrus, Brannon, Hickman etc. but with this core and another good recruiting class we will be hard to beat!

Lol... Looks like I'm the only one for Duncan so far. I'm not taking anything away from Jason. He had a good showing and we won, but I think he keys on Tony too much. Some say that he is the best receiver on the team and I believe there is validity to that; however, Tony isn't going to be open every play. Also, I don't know if Jason ever felt comfortable in the pocket. He did make some nice throws (some of which were on the money, but just dropped by the WRs), but I don't know if I'm sold on him like everyone else is. Duncan kind of reminded me of Tom Brady when he came in. He was comfortable and confident probably because he could see the entire field due to his stature, as he has maybe 6 inches on Jason. One thing we can agree on is that the team is appearing to look like they are headed in the right direction maybe for the next couple of years.

I think if Duncan had not been pressed into the situation against Weber like he was, he might have settled himself quicker to where he probably could have saw that Weber guy trying to get off the field on 4th down. I equate that to just lack of game experience more than anything.

Here's what it comes down to.....we have 3 quarterback's that can get the job done. And that is because of the wonderful coaching of one Marshall Sperbeck. He knows how to develop quarterbacks.

Well here is everyones chance to see how Duncan can handle a full game. It will be his first college start and I think he will do fine. He played very well after he settled down against weber. Its going to be a little different for him to actually handle the whole game, I know sperbecks offense requires a lot of decision making at the line and I hope duncan is ready for that. NAU also doesnt run your average base defense, they run a type of flex look which may be confusing to White. All i have to say is if White can get the ball in Washingtons hand and Hilliard can run like he did last week we shouldnt have a problem getting out with a win. As for the controversy? There is none, I think Smith proved last week that there is none, go take a look at his stats, hes completing over 60% with 6TD's and 0 INT. A big turn around from last year, and apparently the guy was playing hurt last week, shows a lot of guts for the kid.

One thing is for sure; we don't have a controversy this Saturday. Duncan is the man and we don't need to be debating this issue at all. However, when everyone is healthy there still won't be a controversy because Jason Smith is the starter...period. Only a troll would bring this up.

SuperHornet, will you please drop your manlove comments about Garrett White. Great athlete, great kid, great work ethic, but below average QB. Maybe you just love "White" guys, Danny, Garrett and Duncan.

Hey, it's not just those guys. I'd also love to bring back Paul Carillo, Scott Towne, and Jeff Schultz. Of course, with Towne and Schultz, it's a bit more personal. We were part of the 209 posse at Sac, and Schultz was even closer as he also went to my alma mater, Lodi High.

What controversy?

Smith is out, MBT is out, so White is the man. He had some good drive against BBQ and passed for a score. Just limit the fumbles, INT's and make good reads, he will be fine.

well I guess there is no controversy anymore. I think we all saw yesterday that this team doesnt run well without Smith. Lets all hope hes better by Montana or we might be in some trouble.
