I noticed our first game for the upcoming season is on 11/11 with Gonzaga. OK, cool.

Is that accually correct, though? Do we have any exhibitions lined up that aren't on the "master" schedule? It seems like we've always scheduled non-counting exhibition games with other NCAA teams, semi-pro type alumni temas, or internatonal teams. Did the NCAA rid those games, or did we just not schedule any?

I thought it was kinda weird, too......but then someone mentioned that just about every Big Sky team is opening on the 11th or 12 so I looked into it and it's true.

But yeah, we do usually have a couple of exhibition games about NAIA or D-II schools. Not sure why this hasn't happened this season. Probably travel costs if I had to guess.

nope, that is correct, heard we couldn't get anyone on short notice.

Why would it be short notice? Shouldn't the schedule be largely mocked up more than a year in advance? Did some teams pull out on us?

Opening date is Friday, Nov 11th -although there are a few events ala coaches vs cancer that are allowed to begin prior to the official opening date. Prior to that date D1's are allowed to have 2 events - exhibition games or scrimmages vs another D1 - or one of each. The scrimmages are closed to the public - even families. I think only the players, coaches, referees, and stats people are allowed to be there.

I know that we met Oregon State in Portland last weekend for a scrimmage, but I dont know what we are doing for our second event. I dont have as much first-hand info since Earlywine was shown the door. He was gracious enough to allow me into a lot of his meetings so I knew a lot of what was happening in our basketball program. Hopefully, I can get to that point with Coach Hayford.

I did hear through the grapevine that we competed really well vs OSU. Word is that the Hankins kid played really good. I know that Earlywine was really high on him and thought he had a chance to be an all-conference player. Let's hope so because he can give us some much-needed size among our guards.

Also, I forgot to add that the rules changed a couple years ago so D1's can no longer play exhibition games against foreign teams, aau teams, all-star teams etc. The exhibition games must be against D2 or D3 teams.

Thanks oldtime.....that is great news, especially considering Hankins is only a Freshman this season.
