this one.

even losing at uvu, in theory we could still beat UP and Denver.

Thanks for all the stats SWeberCat. After studying them for a few minutes the only conclusion I can come to about Randy Rahe as a coach is that, at best, he is average. And Weber State, for as long as I can remember, has been satisfied with average. So nothing is going to change until Randy decides to resign his position. And I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future. So, Weber is what they have always been. A commuter school who tries to pretend that average is good.

Agreed, but could be interesting, depending on results of this and next season, if Weber State gives Rahe an extension or does not. Right now Coach Rahe's stock value has declined, at least in the eye's of the majority of this forum (?) and all fans I've talked to recently. Even the Standard Examiner is starting to hint at questioning the record (writer Hein's recent article on instate results last 10 yrs).

Except for the Gulf Coast tourney, this OOC season is likely another disappointment (at least in a few minds, considering instate losses & the 2 wins against Ant. & PU - yes it stinks to some of us).

Looking forward to BSC play & the outlook is it could be a bumpy ride, how will Coach Rahe & the administration explain not meeting expectations of 1st in BSC? Could eventually reach the pressure point to ponder a change seriously, it's happened before, yes, even @ Weber State, I've been around long enough to witness it in FB & BB. :twocents:

I couldn't agree more. We start talking about getting rid of Rahe, that isn't going to happen. The problem is much deeper than that. To me, the issue is administration. I don't think the university is committed to improve the problems that athletics is constantly churning out.

So...we want more home games. How is that achieved? With $$$...how do you get $$$...GENERATE REVENUE!! IS this something athletics is really interested in? Evidently...NO! Why?

1. Marketing Sucks
2. Wildcat Club Sucks
3. Boosters are dying and aren't being replaced. Student Participation Sucks
4. Game atmosphere is lazy, and hence Sucks
5. Terrible games...competition Sucks

Where is athletics thinking of generating revenue? If you don't have $$$...you get to travel. But why play at home anyway. Athletics isn't interested in telling anyone so...

JUST DO ENOUGH WEBER!!

You forgot:
6. RENO SUCKS!
7. Lying Athletic Directors Suck
8. A coach that makes unfounded excuses after every loss Sucks

Where can I send my money again? Look on the Brightside, we can now enjoy our misery in our own homes thanks to KJAZZ. And our radio broadcast is much improved. I like the fact that Steve calls every play and I don't have to worry about missing plays because Carl was too worried about keeping up with the stats and coming up with clever nicknames.

Garside (Se) writes article today in newspaper that Lady Luck isn't with the Wildcats of late, talking how the 3 pointers swishing in for UVU & Denver are not an average thing... humm ... might it be that most are wide open shots?! Says Rahe is flustered in after-game interviews...someone should suggest that it could be a problem of needing to be flexible, with smart in-game coaching strategy needed, trying different approaches...or maybe player management isn't working out just right?! What about the assistants, are they not seeing problems or too scared to say something? As always luck is fleeting, but good coaching can be a solid standby. :coffee:

Remember a few years ago when we hired Ken Pomeroy to help us analyze or stats to find ways to improve and Ken came back with the fact that we needed to work on 3 pt defense. The next season we led the nation in 3 pt defense. What happened? That was just a few seasons ago. Our 3 pt defense is bad.

Of course Flapjack Garside has to spin every story into a light and fluffy pancake. It must be hard to do your job when you are told that all stories have to be 100% positive. Luck isn't out rebounding teams by 20 boards and then still losing the game. Sorry :bad:

I didn't want to paste his entire record, but wanted to say one thing about it. Rahe's real record can be summed up by these stats, which I have no desire to try and figure:

1) How many games in which Weber was favored did we win?
2) How many games in which Weber was favored did we lose?
3) How many games in which the opponent was favored did Weber win?

If the upsets of Weber and the Weber upsets were similar, I think most of us would be thrilled. Unfortunately, Weber upsets are few and far between, and getting upset by opponents (big games in particular) skews everything else. The percentages might look glossy, the reality is that it's not enough.

Would be way too much work to determine Rahe's record against the spread, if you could even find those numbers (also, not all Weber games have a Vegas spread).

Overall vs D1 Home: 98-22 (.817)
Overall vs D1 Road: 55-75 (.423)
Overall vs D1 Neutral: 14-11 (.560)
Overall vs D1: 167-108 (.607)

Overall vs D1 Non-Conference Home: 24-10 (.706)
Overall vs D1 Non-Conference Road: 8-42 (.160)
Overall vs D1 Non-Conference Neutral: 11-9 (.550)
Overall vs D1 Non-Conference: 43-61 (.413)

To me, these numbers are more useful than the overall records. Throw out the 20 wins against non-D1 and the record doesn't look as good. Also, Rahe has a losing record versus D1 outside of conference. No wonder he insists that the "preseason" is only used to get better and that wins don't matter. Would you say anything differently if you had his "preseason" record?

Overall vs D1 Non-Conference Home: 24-10 (.706)
Overall vs D1 Non-Conference Road: 8-42 (.160)
Overall vs D1 Non-Conference Neutral: 11-9 (.550)
Overall vs D1 Non-Conference: 43-61 (.413)

If Rahe had an equal number of home games as road games (50), and based on his current home winning percentage (.706), his overall D1 non-conference record would hypothetically be 54-66 (.450).
