Rayes Gallegos

Anyone have any guesses if we have a chance to land the former West Jordan kid? Unlike the Justin Hamilton situation I really believe he is leaving the Huskers to be close to home. That leaves us and USU who recruited heavily. I don't think USU has room considering how they have to dump someone just to sign Stephen Rogers if he decides on USU. Gallegos was graded an 88 by ESPN, and highly recruited by us two in state, and SDSU,CSU,Cal,UCLA and Nebraska. Would be a great get if we have a shot. He would still have 3 more years after his redshirt and help replace Session and Hughey after next year. Very athletic 6'3", quick combo guard.

I have heard rumor that WSU is trying to land a D1 transfer who would have to sit out this next year.

Reyes Gallegos, 6'2", shooting guard from Jordan, UT, will play his senior year at West Jordan High. Gallegos is predicted to be one of the top players in the state of Utah.
Schools of Interest: Southern Utah & Weber State

After Nebraska signed him:

Nebraska’s last signee – Rayes Gallegos -- is its sixth from west of the Rockies in three years, along with Huskers from California (Ade Dagunduro, Sek Henry, Brandon Richardson), Oregon (Alex Chapman) and Washington (Ryan Anderson). Gallegos is the first Husker men’s basketball signee from the state of Utah since Jaron Boone (Salt Lake City, Skyline High School), who went on to become one of the top 10 scorers of all-time at Nebraska.

Like Ubel, Gallegos really came on during the summer AAU circuit when he was playing for the Utah Pump-N-Run White. Gallegos averaged about 25 points per game, according to coach Brad Blanchfield. Active at both ends of the court, Gallegos was rated the No. 53 shooting guard in the country by Scouts.com and was tabbed the No. 7 shooting guard on the West Coast.

The 6-2, 175-pound Gallegos helped West Jordan High School to the state tournament as a junior, when the team went 16-7. Gallegos was the team’s third-leading scorer at 10.5 points per game over 21 contests while helping West Jordan to an 11-game win streak at one point.

Using his impressive quickness and ball-handling skills, Gallegos can get to the basket in a variety of ways, including a solid mid-range game. His scoring ability helped him top 20 points in three contests last year, including a season-best 22 points vs. Kearns and 20 points in a 59-49 victory over Jordan.

Before Nebraska
Ray Gallegos comes to Nebraska after adding hardware to his collection as he led his West Jordan High School squad to the Utah 5A (largest class) state championship in March 2009. For his efforts during the season, he was also named MVP of the 5A first-team all-state squad.

In the state title game, he played a primary role as the Jaguars forced the reigning state player of the year, Tyler Haws, into one of his worst shooting nights of his career. Rayes also had four treys – including consecutive 3s in a 64-second span – to help his team earn the gold and earn all-tournament team honors.

On the season, Gallegos averaged a team-best 16.7 points per game to rank sixth in the state in scoring, posting 417 points in 25 games. The Jaguars went 21-4 on the season, winning their last nine contests. He had nine games with at least 20 points, including a season-best 31 points in the next-to-last regular-season game of the year. He added 22 points, including four 3-pointers, in the state championship game.

Gallegos was second in the state in 3-point field-goals per game, hitting at least three treys in 11 contests. His 66 3-pointers on the season were a school record. He posted a season-best six 3-pointers against Kearns, and had five treys on four other games.

Gallegos really came on during the 2008 summer AAU circuit when he was playing for the Utah Pump-N-Run White. Gallegos averaged about 25 points per game, according to coach Brad Blanchfield. Active at both ends of the court, Gallegos was rated the No. 53 shooting guard in the country by Scouts.com and was tabbed the No. 7 shooting guard on the West Coast following the summer.

Talhad or anybody else have any more info on Gallegos. Tal you said 65% he ends up here has that gone up at all? Aj you said we were probably looking at D1 Transfer do you think it's Gallegos? It looks like Marshall Hendersen might be leaving the U, also Mills is still out there, I'm assuming he does end up leaving BSU. I would really like to get Gallegos, and with Richardson, Porter for maybe up to 3 more (I think he is going to be good for us) Bamforth we are locked and loaded at both guard spots for the next 4 years if we can land Gallegos. Not to mention next years starters Lillard, Hughey, Session, and 2011 recruits all look to be guards. A 6'5" Wing like Steven Thornton would be nice along with a 6'8" PF, maybe that PF is Fulton???

Sorry everyone...there seems to be a lock on any recruitment talk at the moment. All I know is that Rahe said that Weber is close to secruing another transfer, but that that person wouldn't be able to play until 2011. My ASSUMPTION is that its Gallegos, since he is from Utah and that he was highly considering coming to Weber out of high school.

To be honest, I don't know if he is as good, or better, than the three guards Rahe is looking at now. Of course, Weber isn't going to get all three (Taylor, Woods, and Baker) so getting a Sophmore with Big 12 experience might be just as good.

I do know that Gallegos was an 88 coming out of West Jordan, and that he led them to a State 5A Championship last season. Also, that he was being recruited by USU, CAL, CSU, San Diego St, along with Weber, but that out of all of those schools Weber was the top choice next to Nebraska. However, I do know that, and this is from the Tribune, that Gallegos was "better known for his potential rather than his production." Evidently, when he gets into a situation where a loss means the end of the season, or a career (high school), he steps it up and becomes the player he has the potential to be.

Gallegos needs a coach that will push him, ride him, and help him develop into the player that he has the "potential" to become. RAHE is that coach.

it might be him but dont forget 5 utes just left. i could see us taking one.

nope, it's gallegos... but we have to wait until may for him to be official...the quarter must be over in Nebraska... we're out of scholarships we have confirmed that 6'9 Hajek committed and that 6'0 Richardson, who by the way has scored 40 or more pts 5 times and 6'10" Tresnak along with 6'3" Porter ( who won't get to play until mid december), and 6'2" Juco shooter Bamforth are all coming... this really is a great (size) class for us.. By the way, Hajek isn't as raw as you would believe.. I do believe he will be 6'10 or 11 by the time he leaves...go wildcats...

I definitely like your confidence fatcat. I think its Gallegos to, but i'm still just saying 65% chance of him coming here.

Hajek is, more than likely, going to be red-shirting next season. Thats not a bad thing for him though. He is 6-9 245 already and he isn't 17 yet. He will walk onto campus next year as a 17 year old. In all reality he should be a Jr. right now, but got bumped up a year. Its a huge stroke of luck for the Wildcats. If he had another year to play, there is noway that Weber would get him. Also, he could grow and get stronger this year. Whereas, Tresnak is a definite. He will be playing this fall.
