Reasons why Cravens sucked:

Here's how this will work. Post your favorite reasons why Coach Cravens sucked, one at a time, and we'll see how many we can collect. I'll start.

Cravens sucked because...

...He had a stupid ugly mustache.
 
I liked Cravens and was sad to see him go. The day he got the boot he had his team play in 2 big sky tournament championship games twice of his last 3 seasons. He finished with a record of 116-88.

I'm no expert but those aren't bad stats. But I realize WSU is The Program of the conference and no coach has ever had 2 losing seasons in a row and kept his job.

He did have a mutany on his hands that last season and as soon as we got Coach Rahe I realized WSU picked up a great coach and I've never looked back.

Also I'm glad to see Cravens on the Altitude sports network, he knows basketball and our conference and does a pretty good job actually.

So I guess no hate'n from me...

He also came over to my house when I was a student in 2003. That was pretty cool.

And I'll never forget the way he jumped into the crowd and celebrated with us in Bozeman right after we beat MSU to make 12 str8 wins.

Sorry but I couldn't stand Cravens, he seems like a nice person but I hated how his teams seemed to always under-achieve. Their is a reason why he is on Altitude, he is not a great coach, maybe an average one, but nothing like Randy Rahe.

I agree that he wasn't a great coach now that I've seen Rahe for a couple years.

But as a person he was really cool, also, knowing him personally affects my opinion. I also know Brent Guy the USU head coach and I have the same opinion of him, he is a way cool guy and I just don't think it will help to can him. Why should I think the next coach will do better especially when no coach lasts longer than 3.9 yrs since 1948 but that is another thread for another day.
 
Cravens is a heck of a good guy, and a GREAT assistant Coach. It didn't help Joe that all the Coaches on his staff are defensive minded guys which meant that the Offense had no creativity and really was dead. Also Joe didn't require his guys to work out in the off-season nearly like Randy Rahe does. Also Joe became a very "glass half-empty guy" when it came to his team. He was constantly beating them down in practice telling them how bad they were.
Joe is a cool Cat with some great stories, he can recruit, but he is no head coach.

But he did have the Block/charge dance at EWU going for him, that was one of the greatest meltdowns ever. I loved it.
 
I understand how personal experiences with Cravens can affect a person's opinion about him. But my first time meeting him had a negative affect on me.

I was attending my dad's weekly Kiwanis Club luncheon back in the Fall of 1999, and Cravens was that day's guest speaker. So he's up there going on and on about his past and stuff, and then he opens the floor for questions. So we all raise our hands to ask questions, and he skips over me repeatedly to appease the aging Kiwanis members. Finally, he's saying how he has to go when he finally takes my question. He gave me about a brief, generic answer and then left.

So that's my story with Cravens. He ignored the idiot kid in the crowd and talked down to me when I was finally acknowledged. Since that day, I never liked him and was glad to see him go.

Plus, he seemed to solely recruit players from Indiana. Last I heard, there are 49 other states.
 
Don't get me started... Cravens should never have been hired at Weber State. While the coach at Idaho, he was repeatedly beaten by the CATS. I think he beat Weber once out of 8 games... Why hire a coach that you have repeatedly and consistently beaten?

There is nothign u can say to dis 2003 team, that was all Cravens and Cravens recruits.
 
Was there ever a player that Cravens had that got better from year to year? Most of the players were good before they got here, but they did not get better under his coaching. Take David Patten for example. He had a lot of talent when he got here, but he was not getting better until The Wizard came to Ogden. The final year, Patten was MVP, and would have been a serious pro prospect had the Wizard been his coach for the full four years. Jermain got by on his own talent and his own work ethic. Cravens did not put in the time, effort, or work that this current coaching staff does.

Well on second thought, Larry the farmer stole that car and should give it back to me. :lol:
