Recruiting Update & Questions

According to Coach Hayford's twitter page, the Spokesman Review, and go eags.com, Eastern has signed 6-5 freshman Yuka Vulikic from Belgrade Serbia. According to Hayford, he expects Vulikic to compete for the starting point guard role next year with Sir Washington and Will Ferris. There is also mention of Vulikic, mason Peatling, and Jacob Davison being the three signees for next year. Isn't Michael Wearne still on team competing for point guard time? Also, didn't they recently sign Eric Wattree III?

I saw Wearne on the bench in his "redshirt" clothing every game this year so I don't think he has gone anywhere. And I hope not because I think Wearne could be a four year starter. I have heard Hayford say that Wearne could end up being a top guard in the Big Sky. I have never heard of Luka Vulikic before today. The following article has me excited though. A 6'5" point guard---LOVE THAT! Averaged almost 18 a game, over 5 assists, and 6 BOARDS per game against some solid competition. Hayford sounds pumped about this kid and this freshmen class as a whole that includes Jacob Davison, Mason Peatling, and now...Luka Vulikic. Here's the write-up:

Wearne had some sort of surgery prior to the season, and that's the reason he redshirted this year. Forgot where I read that, but he would have played otherwise.

Bringing in three newcomers for next season makes sense, since we lose three Seniors this year (Jois, McBroom, and Reid).

Looks like a nice grad transfer. He was a Griz early on, not sure why he left, but appears he has polished his game up and should be a good one for Eastern next year

To All,
Heard that Will Ferris is leaving. I just hope this doesn't end up like years gone by when Asst. Coach was telling the Players to go to Central. That have stuck in my craw now for years. I am sure all will hear about this move if it is so. Sorry for the bad news. Vic Wallace

I know it's extremely high praise, but he reminds me a lot of Venky. Watch his LCSC highlights, and see if you see similar skills.

He seems to have good touch around the rim, soft touch from the outside, good footwork, and VERY Explosive!! Love that he shoots above 60%. Looks like he can handle the rock in the open floor too. He should be a good fit with what Hayford likes to do. You can never have enough good athletes. He was a 200, 400, and 4x4 track guy at Montana as well. Wondering why he left Montana for NAIA though. Hmmm?

go eags!
