RECRUITING

OK since I have been a WSU football junkie my whole life, and football doesn't start again until spring, the thing I have to look forward to now is recruiting. Do any of you have any good info or rumors about who WSU is going after? Signing day is usually around Feb. 7th and I am trying to get some good intel on who WSU is going after.

I'll do what I can to help AJ... I'm better at the Basketball Recruiting info, but will do my best to procure any football news that I can.

Two concerns:

1. What potential recruits did the assistant coaches take with them when they accepted job offers at the end of the season? Did they pass those kids to Mac? Did they hold back during the season? Does Mac have all the top recruits on his radar screen? Would a top recruit reather play at an abysmal FBS program than at a championship FCS program? It probably depends on the recruit and whether or not Mac has had a chance to get his hooks into him yet :-)

2. Man, we lost a lot of linebacker talent! I sure hope we have some great linebacking talent lined up!

One thing for sure: Mac is energetically and resourcefully attacking the recruit problem.

Cheers!

Except the down time for his shoulder surgery...

Standard Examiner, Sunday's paper:
"SPORTS SHORTS
McBride facing shoulder surgery
OGDEN — Weber State football coach Ron McBride had a painful Christmas.
The 69-year-old McBride fell down the steps leading out of the third floor on the north side of Stewart Stadium the day before Christmas and as a result will have surgery on Tuesday.
“He’ll recover, but it will be a pretty lengthy recovery,” said WSU athletic director Jerry Graybeal. “I told him he’s been through more serious things than this, and he recovered.”
McBride, who has recovered from two heart attacks, hurt his right shoulder on the fall and will have rotator cuff surgery.
Not only did the tumble affect McBride’s holiday, but it comes in the middle of the recruiting season.
“He’s disappointed that it came during recruiting season,” Graybeal said. “But it will be tough to keep that man down.” "

Weber State has picked up a few more commitments recently from instate and Oklahoma.

Bountiful High's Darren Denucci, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive lineman, committed to coach Ron McBride's program earlier this week.

And this weekend, Park City High's Tony Epperson said he will sign with the Wildcats on Wedesday as well.

Epperson will play safety for the Wildcats, although he was also an excellent receiver.

Weber State will sign six prep players from Oklahoma
Weber State's football team is going to have a definite Oklahoma flair to it in the coming years.

At least six high school players from Oklahoma will sign with the Wildcats on Wednesday, according to a report in the Oklahoman newspaper recently.

Kamaal Ahmad, a Weber State assistant who grew up in Edmond, Okla., and played at Northeastern Oklahoma is the apparent tie to the Sooner state.

The six players who have committed to Weber State include Anthony Morales of Edmond Memorial, Josh Booker of Putnam North, Robbie Diamond of Putnam City, Trevor Pletcher of Edmond Santa Fe, Cameron Sanders of Millwood and Willie Okwuonu of Edmond Santa Fe.

Trevor Morris' brother:

One of those out-of-state recruits is defensive back Quade Morris, out of Nampa (Idaho) High School. Morris is the younger brother of Trevor Morris, a sophomore on the WSU men's basketball team, and he said having his brother here helped him decide to become a Wildcat.

"It was an influence, Trevor is my best friend and I look up to him a lot and we always talked about going to same school and getting a place to live," said Quade, who also played quarterback in high school. "But the biggest thing for me was I needed to go somewhere where I was wanted and I felt that way about Weber State."

Morris also had the options of playing minor league baseball, or signing at Idaho State or the University of Oregon, however he decided his best choice would be to sign with Weber State.

"I really like the coaches there and I got to meet some of the players and some of the recruits and they all seem like good people," Morris said. "I like the area. It's a lot like (Nampa)."
