I'm sure that they will bring in at least one running back in this class. However, it probably isn't the most urgent need when you look at the seniors/starters that we are losing. I think we will see a balanced class, with some additional emphasis on a few key positions.

They have already had several groups of recruits on campus for visits. That will probably continue for a while.

HOW ABOUT A FIELD GOAL KICKER?????

That would be nice.

How about a soccer player walk on? Can't be worse than the two we have.

Couldn't get any worse. Weber is 5-15 on field goal attempts this year. 11-14 on PAT's

I've heard about this kicker who is really flying under the radar but could be a good pickup. Name is Gus. Here is a highlight video.

If you can't get the mule, how about this guy? He's from out of state, but he does have family in the area. http://www.hudl.com/profile/4775575/kyle-sentkowski

He looks to have some talent. I am not sure if our coaches are aware of him or not, but I'm sure they would consider anybody. If he is interested in WSU, then I am sure he has sent his info into the coaches.

Unfortunately, for kickers at least, kickers are almost never a top priority in recruiting. In most years we have 3 or 4 guys trying out for one kicker spot on the team.

Our priorities are DL, OL, speed/skill guys. In that order. So...., unless a kicker is averaging 90% of his 60 to 70 yard field goals and regularly kicks it out of the end zone, from the 35, the coaches probably don't get that excited.

You left QB off that list. We also seem to prioritize recruiting extremely below average QBs just above kickers.

You are absolutely right about that. Lets face the cold, hard facts, There are a couple of dozen available, impact QBs around the country and getting one of them is quite hard. We might get lucky, and somebody slips to us, but chances are good that we get guys who may or may not develop into something good. Yes, they are a priority, just like the PKs who can regularly hit 60 yard FGs. However, if you are banking on getting those guys, you might find yourself bankrupt in a hurry. Better to shoot for the best, but control what it is you have control of. :twocents:

Weber needs a QB, Kicker and O Linemen in that order...

There were three O Linemen signed two years ago who went on missions and will be back for the upcoming season. They are: Tevita Tauteoli 6'4' 315, Carter Nielsen 6'4" 335 & Tyler Downs 6'6" 320. Zach Hymas of Nevada was also signed as a QB and went on a mission so he should be returning. I think the coaches need to find guys in JC who can help immediately in these areas. Without a QB there is no chance that Weber improves. And a decent kicker is also essential to an improved record. Who knows if the existing O Linemen can do the job of replacing 3 starters, so maybe they also need a JC lineman or two. Has anyone heard about which returning missionaries signed two years ago will be returning to the team?

In a few, short, years Jay has built our program into a top 25 program. He has done it with no headline players. He has done it with the guys in the trenches. He has done it with the hard workers, the blue collar type guys. There is depth in the program and the future looks bright.

Everybody wants us to get a few of those 'headliner' type of players and that may just happen. When that does happen, it vaults us into a top 10 program. It would be great if this recruiting class landed some of those guys and I am sure that our coaches are going after those guys. If we get some of those high level guys, then great, we take the next step. If we don't, then we stay the course and build the same way that we have been.

Our coaches have done this thing the right way. I'm happy with the direction of the program. We can all be proud of what has and is being done to build this football program. :coffee:

He (Kyle) was recently down in Utah for the Utes' Elite Prospect Camp. He ended the day #2 on their list behind an in-state kicker who played soccer at Utah Valley. Kyle got a message from Weber's special teams coach on his way to the airport and they spoke a bit. The coach said he really liked Kyle's kicking and would like to have him at Weber if the Utes thing didn't happen. So now it's wait and see time to find out if he joins the Wildcats program or goes somewhere else.

Jumping in here to remind everyone that boosters of Weber State's athletics programs cannot engage in recruiting activities. The NCAA's definition of recruiting is VERY broad and includes any contact which would make it more likely that a recruit attend Weber State.

So, please do not have any contact with anyone who identifies themselves as a recruit or the family of a recruit until that recruit has signed with Weber State. Impermissible contact can affect a recruit's eligibility at Weber State.

Please PM me with any questions. And, as always, I'm just the messenger on NCAA rules. :thumb:
