Red~White Game

Greg Herd tore it up today. He had a nasty TD pass off a flea flicker. BLM, Panelli and Gauthier all looked great too. Beaumonte was solid.

Seriously...I heard that the defense was terrible and the kicking game was off too. Will someone please give an accurate report. The fact that Bo ran an 8 yd. touchdown makes me think something is terribly wrong. A missed 30 yd. field goal doesn't say much about the kicking game. How much work do the coach's have to do to straighten this all out?

There was a pretty stiff breeze/wind, so take what you will as far as the kicking game goes. Which defense? Beau split up the team player by player into red offense/defense and white offense/defense. Red had 9 "whistle" sacks. I got there a little late and missed Bo playing, so I can't tell you about the what happened on that play (against the white D). I'll let Vic give the detailed analysis since he would probably know better than I. The writeup is already posted on Goeags.com too if you haven't already checked that out.

I too was at the Red/White game and yes there was a STIFF wind out of the S.W., down on the field at times was enough to blow you around. BLM is the real deal, nice tight spirals and great ball location. The TD scamper was a no brainer as the field was wide open. Had a chance to have dinner with him and a number of the players after the game and the young man is very polite and excited to be here, can't wait to see him let it rip once the season begins ! It will make the loss of Nichols alot easier to handle. Beaumonte is a beast and really was all the offense for the white team on this day. Renard was Renard and will benefit greatly when the rest of the defense is on the field! Jolley and Miles looked real good for the red team defense as did Minnerly for the white team ! And YES the kicking and snapping game needs ALOT of work but I'm sure Coach Baldwin will get it all together in the off-season ! All in All a good day, better crowd than last year and can't wait for the season to begin ! GO EAGS !!!

Flyingnail,
I agree with you, Bo is a very respectable young man, as the rest of the team. First let me give you a laugh and everyone else. I knew we had Red/White Scrimmage, however, I got so damn confused when I saw a QB w/the red, a QB with the white, I said out loud "what the hell is gong on" My buddy Neal Gmeiner said Vic the teams are broken up each team had a QB. I had to laugh at myself :  It's not rocket science. :)

Once the scrimmage got started, Bo threw the 1st pass of the scrimmage, that went for a total of 61 yards, I knew then he could be our #1, QB. Our other QBs Nick Gauth, Greg Panelli, Anthony Vitto, Scott Burgett, all did great moving their respective teams. I am very much impressed with our team, we will be ok in the Big Sky. Bo went three for three, when he first got started. The wind was very stiff, my bald head got cold, was ready to move to the men restroom down below, it was nice and warm in there.

Was disappointed that Matt, and Nathan didn't get drafted. somethimes I think our University being small, are bypassed for some reason. They NFL doesn't know what they are missing every year bypassing some of our great Athletes. i.e. Erik Meyers,Eric Kimble, and many others. Michael Roos was an exception. It is amazing, that young man never injured @ the University level, or the NFL. He is in damn great shape. Him his wife,Steve Etmann, and many of our former Students/Players were there @ the Lobster Dinner, having lot of fun. I went had a lot of fun. Very big crowd, one of the biggest in have seen if not the biggest in 6 years I've attended.

Met Anthony Vitto dad, Renard Williams Mom/Dad, Derek Motoule Dad, Heard Uncle and others very nice families.

We have three more practices left before the summer. Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday. Don't think we had many injuries. Ronnie Hamlin, hope his injury isn't bad, I saw a lot of players after the scrimmage with ice bags on their shoulders, legs etc.

We are going to have some outstanding RBs, Beaumonte #30, Johnson #44,Tally #31, King, and many others. Baines prop 48 from last year, should be ready for the summer practices, along with Recruit Mario Brown. Hope to see some of you at the last three practices, as usual "Vic will be there"

Think our players will all stay around and get stronger for the summer. Didn;t talk about our defense/Offense, we will be ok. Go Eags!. Vic

Thanks for all the updates guys. I am really looking forward to next season. :D

Im very excited about the season coming up. I think BLM does need to step up and show Washington what Texas is made of and where he "comes from". Eagles defense will get it together no worries. So how is the reciever crew looking?

In my opinion this years group of recievers could possibly be the best EWU has put on the field in along time! Speed, SIZE, and a years more experience. Moving Hart to reciever was a great move, running back mentality , possession type reciever. Big and fast on the outside will make Mitchel a much better QB, add that to the speedsters coming in could make a VERY potent offense ! GO EAGELS !!! Just my observations !

Eagle10,
Don't worry, BLM will show all of us what he is made of. He will be outstanding in the Big Sky, help move our team to another Playoff Team, with the help of the other QBs. We have outstanding Quarter Backs. Miss Jeff Minnerly, however, we will be proud of the ones left as QBs. Jeff shines each time we have a scrimmage making his tackles. He is stronger than he looks.

Our Wide Receivers, will be outstanding. Brandon Kaufman, Nick Edwards, Greg Heard, Tyler Hart, and others will be great. Our Running Backs coming out of the backfield will be great at receiving. We will have some surprising plays this year, wait and see. You saw one of them on Saturday with heard getting the ball and throwing with his left side for a TD.

One of our former OL Nick Stewart now DL wearing #52, looks great on the Defense, I saw him I wasn't sure until I saw it on the 11pm news. Our players are getting big and stronger. Should they stay around for they will be even bigger and stronger.

I don't know if any of you saw the little uprising during one of the plays Saturday, Coach Beau jumped in his butt, let him know he will not tolerate any fights, etc. Big #90, Matt Lawrence TE, transfer from Carroll College, got a little hot tempered, Coach Beau, put him in his place. Beau will not tolerate any trouble with the members of team. "Coach incase you are wondering", I did hear you from the bleachers. At least you didn't curse :)

The walkons are great players, Matt Lawrence, Burr,Caldwell, and many others are really coming into their own. Just think of our players that didn't play because of prior injuries. It will be very scary for the Big Sky Teams. We are going to raise a lot of "HELL" in a positive way.

In case anyone wants to know, Matt Nichols have an opportunity with Dallas Cowboys, he will be there with Jon Kitna from Central Washington, Nate Overbay will be with Denver Broncos, both as Free Agents. I think a total of 9 players were sign as Free Agents from Big Sky Conference. Two are going to my Saint Louis Rams, they need all kind of help. Hope they win at least three games this year, this will put them two up from last year  Hope Matt and Nate get a fair chance to show what they are capable of doing in the NFL.

So much or my Griping. Go Eags! Vic

That's a pretty big assertion! :D We've had some pretty sick receiving corps in the past. Even in the recent past: Boyce, Davis, Overbay, Brown, etc. etc. Hope you're right though!

Flyingnail isn't too far off. Nic Edwards will be just as good if not better than Aaron Boyce and Erik Kimble. Kaufmann is a stud and is already showing it on the field. Herd showed in the red/white game why he can be so dangerous... I hope to see a lot more trick plays this year. Tyler Hart is a lot like Tony Davis... quick slot possession receiver.

I think Edwards has huge potential, but he did seem to drop quite a few passes this past season as a Freshman. Also, not sure if you can really compare him with Kimble, either. Kimble was just a different sort of player between his receiving, running, and kick/punt returns. I'm not sure if Eastern has had a player as versatile since he left. You could probably compare Edwards with Boyce, but again, those are huge shoes to fill. Boyce was a game-breaker.

Hence my use of the word "will." :D He has plenty of time left.

This is exactly why I love this site, good opinions, great feedback and talking EAGLE FOOTBALL,Ya gotta love it ! GO EAGS !

I believe there is a gammet of ages represented on this board and don't thing LDopa isn't on here spewing his tidbits of insight into ways to make EWU is better place..or at least a more interesting place to converse.
