I think this is a bad move for the conference.

On a separate note, does this mean Eastern is an auto-qualifier?

"Eastern’s men’s team, under the guidance of head coach Jim Hayford, will head to Reno next year as the defending tournament champions. The Eagles won this year’s tournament in Missoula, which was hosted by the University of Montana. The Eagles and Grizzlies tied for the league title, but UM won a tiebreaker to host the tourney."

I think this is a big mistake. No one is going to go to Reno and it hurts the chances of the conference's best team making it to the NCAA tourney...

If the "best" team can't win on a neutral court, I have my doubts whether they should be representing the conference in the NCAA tourney, where they will be playing on a NEUTRAL COURT.....the team playing the best at the time may be our best chance to win a NCAA game.....last year you guys were the best team and you won on a hostile court, if Montana would have won do you think the best team would have been representing the BSC? I don't think so.....the cream almost always rises to the top....I think you are worried about something that MIGHT happen but is probably going to be very rare....

Its going to be an embarrassment if the fans don't show up and support their schools, and I'm highly suspect that they will. The last time 2 teams that weren't hosting the tourney played in the championship was 2009, the crowd was 1500, and that was at Weber! If the Griz and/or Weber don't play in the championship, it will be an embarrassment as I don't think the fans will show. On top of that, I get they are trying to save money on a central location, but then why add 4 more teams to the tourney and an extra day of games?

Small conferences that are only 1 bid leagues tend to try and protect their better teams and have the regular season champ host. They do this so the best team has the best chance to make the NCAA tourney and make some noise, which then creates buzz for that university and that conference. Hosting at a neutral site MAY not hurt the chance of the best teams winning it (although it does hurt the 1 seed who no longer gets to host), but it certainly does not help.

Time will tell if this works or doesn't

I agree with some of your post but the reason for all teams being in is the same reason as being able to book rooms and flights early.....you have to know who is in before you make your arrangements, thus everyone is in so everyone has to make arrangements....if you still only took the top 8, you wouldn't know who the top 8 were until the weekend before the tourney so no one but the top 3-4 in the standings could make advanced reservations for flights but even then they wouldn't be very far advanced. By allowing all teams in they can make their flight plans TODAY if they want to. BTW....you didn't answer my question about the best team last year representing the conference....I think the best BSC team did represent the conference because they were playing the best at the end of the year.....if conference champ goes to NCAA, you guys go to the CIT last year....And also I personally could give a rat's ass what the tournament game "looks like" on TV...it doesn't make a bit of difference to me or to the vast majority of the sports fans across America...
