Rivalry games

Whatever happened the Big Sky's annual rivalry games? I thought Eastern played Idaho and Portland State every season. It never occurred to me before that we don't play Portland State this season. We've played Idaho every year, though. Did that fade away during the COVID year when Portland State refused to play?

That didn't hit me until recently.

I guess Idaho is our rival now? I'd be fine if that were the case but I guess it's a nice home game for the Western Washington folk.

Vik fan here, taking advantage of the new forum setup. My take, it would be nice if the conference would set up pods of three similar to what they did with the California teams. Something like this...

Pod 1---Cal Poly, Davis, Sacramento State
Pod 2---Eastern Washington, Portland, State, Idaho
Pod 3---Montana, Montana State, Idaho State
Pod 4---Weber State, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona

You are guaranteed to play each member of your pod every year. I realize it would possibly break off other rivalries (Idaho/Idaho State, Montana/everyone else in the conference), but it would keep them somewhat regionalized.

btw...some of you may know me as JALMOND on AGS and CS. I had a issue awhile back trying to register that name here so my arrogance took over. :)

The “Pods” idea is interesting, however I prefer the “Protected Rivalries” verbiage & structure. Specific opponents that will be on the schedule every year.

I don’t mind having PSU as a “Protected Rival” but the reality is Montana, MSU & Idaho are EWU’s actual rivals. I recommend each team have between 0-3 “Protected Rivals”.

NAU - 0? >I don’t think they have a BSC rival
UNC - 0?
Weber St - 1? (ISU)
Idaho St - 2 (UI, WSU
Idaho - 3 (ISU, UM, EWU)
Montana - 3 (MSU, UI, EWU)
Montana St - 2 (UM, EWU)
EWU - 3 (UM, UI, MSU)
Portland St - 0?
Sac St - 2 (UCD, CP)
UC Davis - 2 (CSUS, CP)
Cal Poly - 2 (CSUS, UCD)

Three teams MAX gives us every BSC rivalry game, every year. While still playing a normal BSC schedule.

So you're saying instead of 4 pods of 3, have 3 pods of 4, set up something like this?

Pod 1---Cal Poly, UC Davis, Sacramento State, Portland State
Pod 2---Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, Montana State
Pod 3---Idaho State, Weber State, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona.

I actually would not mind this. I like the idea of playing the California schools as our rivals. But you would throw out the Dam Cup (EWU/PSU) and the Potato Game (ISU/UI). That may be a tough one.

Jeez, I feel like Pod 2 becomes the SEC of this equation. I don't see how that benefits the participants. I know Eastern has been shitty for a few years running, but that's still a lot of Conference Championships in one pod together.
