Weber State Athletics has announced the hiring of Ron Goch as the new Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions. Goch will oversee marketing, promotions, advertising, event operations, community relations and ticket sales for WSU's 16 collegiate athletics programs.

Goch has extensive experience working in the sports industry. He has held key marketing, sales and consulting positions with the NBA, WNBA, and four university athletic programs (Tennessee, Utah, Washington and Winona State). In addition, Goch has worked at 10 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classics, one year with the U.S. Ski Team, and served two years as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Tennessee.

He earned a graduate assistantship at the University of Tennessee, working in the women's athletics department (1988-90) while pursuing a master's degree in sports administration and management. He returned to UT (1997-00) as an assistant athletic director. While at Tennessee, Goch was part of four National Championships - three in women's basketball (1989, 1998, 1999), and one in football (1998).

Goch earned B.A. degrees in journalism and public relations from Winona State University (Minnesota), and was a member of the football and track and field teams.

Goch and his wife Susie are the parents of three children.

So, and I'm not smackin the guy yet, but why would a guy with so much experience come to Weber State? Is he only coming to Weber so that he can get a position with a strong title? Is he from the area and wants to come back? Does he see the potential of Weber and is really excited about the possibilities? I'm hoping this doesn't end up like a Kim or Becky hire, where someone only occupies a desk in the stadium (has the WCC even been relevant since Shay?). I've got faith in the Bovee, so I'm hoping that Goch works out. Would be pretty sweet if the Bovee pulls a hat trick on hires this year (Volleyball, WBBALL, and Marketing Director).

Why is it that most of us can see that the WCC hasn't been relevant but Bovee can't? I wish the one that occupies the desk would be replaced. :twocents:

I for one will NOT donate a damn dime to the Wildcat Club until there is a change in the current management. I do however donate to WSU athletics in other ways. The Wildcat Club flat out doesn't care about the majority of their members, and I grew tired of being treated poorly by that group. :butt:
