Roos Field Renovation

The pics are dope..lets hope this gets built by 2013 or 2014. and btw NO GAMES AT JOE ALBI!!

No way it gets built by 2013. 2014 is the best case scenario, although I suspect it will be 2015 when ready to open.

I heard Eastern is trying to plan for a massive increase in students, trying to push for 16,000 in 5 years. If so, that is great for EWU, Cheney, and the athletics dept. Gotta give a lot of credit to Pres Arevalo for making big plans even in a recession.

That's great. If that's the case, I think it would give more momentum to the GP as a tool to lure those extra students. Hopefully the powers that be realize this as well.

Deep play-off runs or a NC or two would definately go a long way in helping get to that number.
EWU is still pretty much a unknown over here on the west side with young students, but word is getting out!
If we could only get the Seattle Times to do a little more on us that would be nice.

I have heard this as well, it's no secret and I believe it's part of the most recent vision statement as well. What I do like is that the school isn't just growing enrollment; it's growing while placing an emphasis on increasing the infrastructure on the Cheney campus rather than wasting money investing it elsewhere such as in Spokane facilities, etc. When you see a massive new residence hall being built on campus, as well as the Gateway Project, etc, you can tell they're planning for the future. Great to see. The potential for future growth is basically unlimited, as the University uses only a fraction of the actual land they own and there's no enrollment cap like there was back in the 90's when I was a student there.

Is it me or does the field in the aeral picture not look any closer to the stands even without the track? Ah well this is still way bigger than any of us could have imagined. If they eventually bowl in the endzone we'd have ourselves an FBS stadium... Even without the endzone it's probably still FBS calibur.

Not with only 16k seating.
Ah I thought it was closer to 20k. So it's almost FBS calibur. But bowling in the endzone isn't that unrealistic espeically if EWU is able to consistently sell out a 16k stadium.

I think with proposed project, the new capacity would exceed 18k. Not that that is FBS level either, but who really wants to move up anyway!

DEAR LORD NO PLEASE NO NO NO
Let's not get delusions and grandeur here. Why are we talking about FBS level?

The Big Sky is the perfect fit for us.
Personally I have no desire to becoming the next incarnation/coming of IDAHO.

The presentation to the BOT said the field was being moved 24-feet to the west once the track is removed. The image shows equal sidelines so I presume both sides will be closer to the field than it is today.

Agreed. People always ask me if I think we move up and I always say "God I hope not." I think that would be a catastrophic mistake. I really think that Boise State was a fluke. And what conference would we play in? Bad, bad idea. :twocents:

Totally agree with the Boise State comment. All the stars were aligned for them.
They are still not considered a great academic school either and that is what kept them out of the Pac 12 when it expanded.

Anybody remember Marshall, UConn. How is it working out for them?????

I think the renovation plan is great, but I have a couple reservations (and I am not trying to be a downer).

- Does the admin think we will have the fan support for 16K? Just curious, we have been close to 8K a game this year, but its not like there is a waiting list for season tickets or we are selling out right away. You can still get tickets to almost every game on game day or at least the day before. We still haven't given away all of the student tickets to Saturday's game and we have about 1000 more to sell to everyone else still. Just curious if they think we will be able to draw..say...11-12K on average, anyone know? If we had sellouts and more of a demand every week, i could see it, but right now we don't.

- Do we have the boosters for this? Its going to take a lot of donations. I know we haven't had a lot of donations in years past, the football success has helped, but we are definitely towards the lower end on booster donations.

Just curious, I would love to see this happen, just have a few reservations as I would love to have a brand new 16,000+ seat stadium, but would hate to see 8k in it.

Totally understand your questioning of the 16K. I remember when Idaho was going through the process and not getting anywhere near the 10k they needed for attendance to qualify. 16k for any event in the area is a big task . . . .even for WSU at times (take away the season ticket holder number and count actual buts in the seats).

My thinking and I am sure it is part of theirs is that if the team continues to be successful and they build this, the game day experience will be worth people coming out to week in and week out. We need to make it family friendly/entertaining and affordable.

Anyone know if there is still free admission for students during the regular season or do they have to pick up tickets in advance? Reason I ask is if their goal is to increas enrollment more they are probably thinking they will need the seating for the students as well.

Pretty sure students just need to show their ID to get in...

Our problem with the students is that most of the Soph/Jr/Sr classes don't live in Cheney so the students that do come to the games are mostly Freshman...
