USD’s renovation pics.
Looks very nice!
It looks like them may be doing a bunch of small flat panel video boards around the upper level rather than one huge board. Interesting idea, what do you think of that?
What ever became of the $cha-ching$ study that was done to recommend what to do?

clawman,
I have given up on anything happening to Roos Field. I am tired of what we say, doesn't seem to matter. If something comes I will be happy, not building up my hopes anymore. Time is short for all of us at my age. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Maybe see you on Wednesday @ 6 p.m. Men Game against Providence. Vic

I like it for USD but I always thought UNI did it right. NAU’s renovation was also really good. If you play in a dome it needs to be an intimidating & scary place to play. It’s got to be so loud you can’t anything, like audibles & yourself thinking. I think you accomplish that by catering to the fans a little.

Not sure if I missed it, but weren’t we supposed to get the report back from the consulting firm the university hired about fund raising for the project? Does anyone have information on their recommendations?

Might be under the tree in the morning :)

Good point.

According to Jim Allen’s article in May, Phoenix Philanthrophy Group was supposed to have concluded the assessment phase of their project by the end of September. The implementation of their suggestions was supposed to take eight months from that point, which means that if the assessment was completed on time, we should see the new processes in operation by May, 2018.

Don’t get me wrong, things are far from perfect at WSU with their athletics budget and being in the hole, but at least they have a president with vision. I wish we would see an article like this coming out of Cheney where limitations are recognized but that isn’t the excuse used to not move forward.

There is nothing visionary about adding more deficit to an athletic department that owes the university 51.5 million dollars. This at the same time Schulz is cutting academic budgets across all university programs. Maybe the proposed stadium beer sales will make up the difference.

i met with Peter from Phoenix philanthropy this summer to discuss fundraising opp for new stadium. they were supposed to produce a report months ago but presidents office will not respond to me. im pinging them again now.

total apathy from presidents office and AD's office. Hard to know whats going on behind the scenes but sure seems like EWU is missing out on a huge opportunity to capitalize on the success of the program here, but we are mired by bad decisions and poor leadership.

Help me out here, because this is disconcerting.. were you identified as a potential donor? Is that why they contacted you? If you are a potential large donor and the AD and Pres aren't taking your emails seriously, that is scary. I don't want to assume something that isn't true, so that's why I'm asking.

BS!

Actions speak louder than words. IMHO the only way EWU gets a legitimate facility is from Boosters & Alumni.

As a Top 10 program it is totally embarrassing that EWU plays in high school stadium with lipstick.

Mary Cullinan prefers the ostrich approach to Football and stadium (bleachers). Just don't look..
Potential students drive by that stadium, look at the bleachers and wonder if this is a big time school..or not. Take a look Mary...cover it up or fix it out of school facility appropriations budget.

As a proud eagle alumni who feels like EWU Is very underrated in terms of education value and rankings. While I feel like every academic institution should put academics first that is no reason while EWU should not have a small but first rate stadium.

Arevalo and Rex Fuller( who is now president of Western Oregon University) These guys had vision and the foresight in terms of what it took to put EWU into the national spotlight.

This new president does not have the some same traits in my I opinion. From 2006-2014 Cullinan was the president of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. She is responsible for authoring the two largest retrenchment programs in the history of the University. In the spring of 2014 the faculty of Southern Oregon University held a vote of no confidence in Cullinan and two of her top administrators. 83% of the faculty participated in the vote, with 76% of those faculty voting no confidence in Cullinan's leadership.

So what does EWU do? They pass on Fuller and hire this gal.
Bill Chaves has done an outstanding job as he can only do so much when you have a president who has no leadership and probably does not make this expansion a priority. His hands aretied.

Secondly, EWU has been around since 1882 and yet we fund raise like a community college. We are much better than this. It all starts with the President and works it way down. EWU doesn't need to move up a division like Boise state did. However, we can certainly learn from Boise State and make ourselves more relevant in terms of exposure, alumni support, academic growth etc. It all starts at the top and a commitment to raise money. This president doesn't get it for some reason. She has got to get her hands dirty and get after it.

And that is OK. I think people will give but give to WHAT?
What the University needs to do is develop a vision so donors can see what they are helping to build. Also the university can allow use of their bond rating so the facilities can be built using the low financing.

I think she just doesn't like football and she is one of those anti-football feminists.

Okay I'm just gonna throw this out here. We have at least three really successful NFL alumni right now, two being on the Rams, one on the 49ers. Any chance they might pool some money and contribute to their alumni stadium? I know they are just coming into their own and buying houses and immediate needs and wants, however one can wish. I see pictures all the time of simple renovations that we can make, but it just has to be approved from the top. New bleachers, a new turf and some locker room upgrades. I'd settle for any one of the three at this point. I'm okay with fund raising too and willing to give, but someone has to organize it, preferably on campus. It's disheartening to go into the off season again without anything being done.
